OR: Should Teachers Be Allowed To Pack A Gun?

In court documents, she's known as "Jane Doe." Innocuous enough, but the woman behind that pseudonym pushes one of the nation's hottest political buttons: guns and school safety.

What Ms. Doe wants to do is take her Glock 9-mm pistol to the high school in Medford, Ore., where she teaches.

She's licensed to carry a concealed weapon and she has what many supporters say is a legitimate reason for being armed: a restraining order against her ex-husband based on threats he's allegedly made against her and her children.

Since he began his presidential campaign, Giuliani has emphasized his support for the Second Amendment instead of his previously vigorous support for gun control. While serving as New York City mayor, Giuliani broke ranks with many members of his party to lobby for the federal assault-weapons ban, and he was at former President Bill Clinton's side when it was signed into law in 1994.

Friends and roommates, juniors Andrew Breza and Ken Stauff share an interest in Second Amendment rights and range shooting. After a failed attempt two years ago to start the GW Gunslingers, the pair began organizing the Colonial Militia, a group concerned with gun rights advocacy and shooting for pleasure.

"We chose (the name) Colonial Militia to knock on the Colonial Army, but also the militia is basically what won this country," Stauff said. "We are the Colonials here, so why not expand upon that?"

Over the years I've read many of Dr. Paul's speeches and taken note of his outstanding conservative voting record. He is the only candidate in either party who does not accept corporate money. He has never voted for a tax increase in all of his years in Washington.

He proposes ending birthright citizenship for illegal aliens, and has vehemently opposed any plan that would grant amnesty to those who have broken our laws. Dr. Paul has a perfect record where the Second Amendment is concerned. He is also unquestionably pro-life.

Ron Paul has been a tireless advocate for decreasing government spending and ensuring that you and I have the freedoms guaranteed by the constitution.

Luke Karner-Brown, 14, and Sara Gresham, 13, both agreed they would be willing to give up their right to bear arms.

The District of Columbia can’t seem to get its constitutional priorities straight. Two weeks ago, it asked the U.S. Supreme Court to deny its citizens their Second Amendment rights by overturning an appellate decision that lifted the city’s handgun ban in March. Now it’s trying to invent a brand-new constitutional right: a vote for itself in the House of Representatives.

The first category consists of persons who are convicted by any court, anywhere of a misdemeanor "gang-related offense." Persons in this category would be banned from exercising their Second Amendment rights for life. The idea of imposing a lifetime ban on the exercise of one's constitutional right for any misdemeanor (even a trivial one) that can somehow be construed to be gang-related should be troubling to any American who believes that all of the rights guaranteed by the Constitution serve as safeguards against tyranny and oppression. Congress is not free to choose which rights it deems important, and thus will respect, and which it is willing to deny on trivial grounds.

"I did point out that article three, we don`t have a lot of soldiers coming to our house demanding quarter," says Cody Wardner of Dakota Stage who was dressed up in clothing men wore in the late 1700s. "But you still are guaranteed freedom of religion and that no religious institute will be held up, and freedom of speech and all of your freedom of privacy. The freedom to bear arms is actually in the Bill of Rights, which is a common misconception of the constitution."

Ed.: Given the above, clearly they need to spend more than one day per year on their constitutional studies...

Americans Wrong on Their Rights

ACCORDING to a new poll released by the nonpartisan, nonprofit First Amendment Center, 55 percent of Americans believe that the U.S. Constitution establishes a Christian nation, and 56 percent believe that the freedom to worship as you choose doesn't extend to all religious groups.

It's troubling that at a time of serious constitutional debates in this country - from school prayer to the detainee program at Guantanamo - so many Americans don't even have a minimal understanding of the very bedrock of our Republic. Just in case, here is a refresher on the rights guaranteed in our Bill of Rights, the first 10 amendments to the Constitution:

We don't think we are cops, spies, or superheroes. We aren't hoping that somebody tries to rob the convenience store while we are there so we can shoot a criminal. We don't take it upon ourselves to get involved in situations that are better handled by a 911 call or by simply standing by and being a good witness. We don't believe our guns give us any authority over our fellow citizens. We also aren't here to be your unpaid volunteer bodyguard. We'll be glad to tell you where we trained and point you to some good gun shops if you feel you want to take this kind of responsibility for your personal safety.

In the good old days, it was called a tax when the government forced money out of your pocket to pay for something you didn't want. Now, Mrs. Clinton wants to force us to spend money on something we don't want and then claim that she's somehow solved our problem. This is like forcing everybody in the country to buy a meal at a fancy restaurant (or an automobile or a handgun) and then claiming that the "problem" of hunger (or lack of transportation or lack of self-defense) is solved.

You may recall that in recent years, GOA has enlisted your aid in fighting so-called "gang" legislation, which typically includes attempts to apply federal RICO anti-racketeering statutes to minor gun infractions -- thus harassing and prosecuting otherwise law-abiding gun owners as though they were Mafia bosses.

Well, Feinstein's S. 456 is the latest vehicle for such underhandedness.

At issue is section 215 of the bill. In essence, your family, gun shop employees, or even church bowling league would be considered an organized "gang" and subjected to draconian prison sentences if you did any of a number of things

HOUMA, La. — A former sheriff's deputy faces up to 40 years in prison after being convicted on four charges accusing him of sex with a then-16-year-old student at South Terrebonne High School.

Glenn Brunet, 47, has denied any sexual contact with the girl, who is now 18.

He was convicted Thursday of carnal knowledge of a juvenile — consensual sex between someone who is at least 19 years old and someone between the ages of 13 and 16. He was found not guilty on seven other counts.

Terrebonne Parish First Assistant District Attorney Carlos Lazarus said prosecutors will seek prison time but wouldn't say how much. Defense attorney Jim Alcock declined comment after the verdict.

Within a week of proclaiming that California Republicans need to "come back into the mainstream," California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has undermined state conservation efforts by firing one of his own state Fish and Game Commissioners, at the bidding of the National Rifle Association and far-right Republican legislators. The governor last week forced the resignation of Commissioner Judd Hanna, a Republican and hunter whom he appointed in February, for his stance on the protection of endangered California condors from lead poisoning.

Ed.: It's not too late to ask the Governor to veto this bill (A.B. 821) as suggested at www.ccrkba.org.

"...“Property,” - This term in its particular application means “that dominion which one man claims and exercises over the external things of the world, in exclusion of every other individual.”

"In its larger and juster meaning, it embraces every thing to which a man may attach a value and have a right; and which leaves to every one else the like advantage. In the former sense, a man's land, or merchandize, or money is called his property*...."

"...He has a property very dear to him in the safety and liberty of his person...."

Deputies are investigating a breaking-and-entering case in which they said the intruder was shot and killed. Authorities said a man woke up and found another man climbing through a ladder and going through his window. The homeowner confronted 55-year-old Howard Jones as he came off the ladder, investigators said. Jones was shot twice with a rifle and later died at a local hospital, according to the Surry County Sheriff's Office. Authorities said it wasn't the first time Jones had broken into the home.
