"New York criminal illegal gun purchaser and mayor Michael Bloomberg and his hoplophobic bitch Frank Lautenberg are once again pushing for legislation that would deny the right to purchase firearms to terrorist suspects." ...

"Look, I don't relish the idea of terrorists walking around with guns, but fact is a gun attack by terrorists would not be nearly sensational enough ... Terrorist attacks on America have mostly been perpetrated with explosives ... But even though history suggests otherwise, Bloomberg and his pet snake Lautenberg want to prevent Americans from exercising their Second Amendment rights without a trial or a verdict about their guilt or innocence. The mere presumption that someone is a terrorist is enough." ...

"For all its wind, the gist of California's AB 1471 [the so-called Crime Gun Bill] can be found under Need For This Bill. within the text of the bill. To answer the one and only rationale given by its author, there are five rebuttals."

"Need for This Bill According to the author: California has an enormous and diverse problem of unsolved homicides committed with handguns. No arrest is made in approximately 45% of all homicides in California because police lack the evidence they need ..."
"As a legally interested constituent, let me detail how this bill will affect Californians and others around the country." ...

"A new international poll has revealed that Americans have substantially more guns than any other country. According to the poll, nine out of 10 Americans own a gun and possess more than 250 million of the world's 600 million guns."

"As expected, many people are using this poll to call for more gun control. Gun critics seem to think that more guns mean more crime and fatalities. On the other hand, gun rights supporters claim it is their inalienable right to own a gun for self-defense or any other legal purpose."

"The simple fact of the matter is that the gun critics are just plain wrong. Time and time again, guns have proven to deter crime, not encourage it." ...

"One of the staple questions of gun magazine readers and Internet gun enthusiasts is, 'What's the best caliber for self-defense?' I found myself recently in a district attorney’s office, chatting with the DA and two of his investigators. The coats were off, and I noticed we were each wearing different caliber pistols." ...

"Walther, in concert with S&W, has produced a sleek, slick and stylish 9mm that may redefine the way we think about 'pocket pistols.' Meet the PPS."

"The Duchess of Windsor is noted as having said 'One cannot be too rich or too thin.' I'm not sure she could have foreseen today's world, where rail-thin supermodels charge a hundred grand for a photo shoot ... While the rich part doesn't apply to us, the thin part does when it comes to a carry gun. In fact, a daily concealed carry handgun cannot be too thin, too light, too compact or too easy to shoot." ...

"The issue of arming campus police officers has divided the University of Northern Iowa campus for decades."

"Questions abound about whether officers protecting the college --- considered one of the safest in the country --- need to carry weapons to do their jobs."

"Officers say yes: They do the same job as city police officers and should be equipped accordingly."

"But it isn't just UNI's officers talking about the issue this time around. Since school began last month campus communities in Cedar Falls, Iowa City and Ames have spent hours debating the issue. The Iowa Board of Regents will finally have its say when members meet Tuesday in Council Bluffs." ...

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Rudy Giuliani, an ardent gun-control advocate as mayor, will address the National Rifle Association on Friday.

The GOP White House hopeful, who backed the federal assault-weapons ban in 1994 over the objections of the NRA, has changed his position as a presidential candidate. He now says he supports the Second Amendment and believes gun laws should be addressed by the states.

It is possible that the NRA would endorse Giuliani.

"We take into consideration a candidate's past record and what they're saying now and what they'll do in the future," said NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam.

"You may recall that in recent years, GOA has enlisted your aid in fighting so-called "gang" legislation, which typically includes attempts to apply federal RICO anti-racketeering statutes to minor gun infractions -- thus harassing and prosecuting otherwise law-abiding gun owners as though they were Mafia bosses."

"Well, Feinstein's S. 456 is the latest vehicle for such underhandedness."

"At issue is section 215 of the bill. In essence, your family, gun shop employees, or even church bowling league would be considered an organized 'gang' and subjected to draconian prison sentences if you did any of a number of things ..." ...

"California senators are mulling a bill to require microstamping, a new technology that imprints a tiny string of characters on each cartridge a gun shells out."

"Supporters say the tool could clue in detectives on unsolved gun crimes, linking cartridges to a gun owner within hours. Opponents say it could inflate the price of firearms, and mislead detectives after stolen guns. And experts fret that the technology, though promising, is still too new and troubleshot to impose statewide."

"'It gets a lot of attention because it has the word 'guns' written on it,' said Fred Tulleners, director of forensics ... 'But it's not really ready to implement in prime time.'" ...

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Almost 750 Oregonians died from violence in 2005, with suicide accounting for the majority of those deaths.

State health officials report that 555 Oregon residents killed themselves in 2005 -- more than five times the amount who died from homicide.

Oregon had slightly fewer suicides than in 2004, but the state still has the 10th-highest suicide rate in the nation.

Suicide rates are higher among men and military veterans, and they rise steadily with age. Among Oregonians older than 65, the rate is 78% higher than the national average.

The suicide total does not include terminally ill people who used Oregon's Death With Dignity Act to end their lives.
