"The Department of Justice and Media Matters corresponded and coordinated on stories about Operation Fast and Furious 'gunwalking,' going so far as to disparage the citizen journalist who initially broke the story, Matthew Boyle of The Daily Caller reported today, citing emails obtained from a Freedom of Information Act request to determine the extent of cooperation between the government and the 'progressive' advocacy group." ...

"When I read the first couple of paragraphs of North New Jersey’s The Record editorial Smart Gun Control, I thought to myself 'Holy smokes! They’re actually finally starting to get it!'"
"NEW JERSEY has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, but even they cannot prevent an unstable man from opening fire and killing people. The tragic shootings last month at the Pathmark in Old Bridge remind us of that. Not that we needed reminding, because we never had a chance to forget that gun violence can crop up anywhere, regardless of the severity of the laws."
"Brilliant! They’ve finally figured out that gun control doesn’t work and are going to recommend repealing all those stupid mala prohibita gun laws that are supposed to prevent crime but don’t work, right? . . ."

"Well no, not quite." ...

"To hunt in the state of Texas, if you were born within the last 30 years, you need to have passed an approved hunter education class and carry the proof with you. Unless you pay $10 for a one year deferral, like I did last year. Unfortunately that deferral is a once in a lifetime thing so this past weekend, in preparation for the coming hunting season, I spent 10 hours of my life in a conference room at a Bass Pro Shop listening to two TPW instructors indoctrinate the newest wave of Lone Star hunters. And it turns out they were the biggest Fudds in the world and made no bones about it . . ." ...

Gun 'buy backs,' and using the enemies' own resources against them

"When the forcible citizen disarmament lobby finds itself stymied in its efforts to pass more 'gun control' laws, they often try to console themselves with gun 'buy backs' (and what do they mean by 'buy back,' which implies that they're once again taking possession of guns that were once theirs?). While for the most part it would seem that such fuzzy, feel-good efforts are fairly harmless to gun rights (not to mention harmless to violent criminals' plans), and indeed represent a waste of the other side's funds that could otherwise finance more effective attacks on gun ownership, there could be more to such events than meets the eye." ...

"In August, the Republican Party released what the Second Amendment Foundation calls 'the strongest ever' pro-Second Amendment platform by a major political party. SAF's assertion is difficult to dispute. The platform's treatment of gun rights begins by stating that the right to keep and bear arms pre-dates the Constitution, and thus exists independently of it. It also specifically condemns attempts to ban or otherwise restrict so-called 'assault weapons' and 'high capacity' magazines, and supports national concealed carry reciprocity. The platform even condemns 'Project Gunwalker.'" ...

"You don’t have to be a Navy SEAL to know that the H&K MK23 is one bad ass pistol. But it helps. It also helps when it comes to owning one. Navy SEALs pay for theirs in blood, sweat and tears. Uncle Sam gets a deal. Civilians need to shell-out some $2,300 or thereabouts for the privilege. Truth be told, I’m no more likely to buy a H&K MK23 than Kerry McGregor is to go swimming in an old gunny sack. So, the H&K USP Tactical then, a more affordable offshoot of the MK23 development program . . ." ...

"Hollywood would have you believe that fire 'sets-off' ammunition—to the point where good guys and bad guys alike run for cover. The media buys into this myth as well. To wit: 'The residence, owned and occupied by Butch Jones, was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived,' news-journal.com reports. 'Jones was trapped inside.' What’s worse, Jones had a shotgun, a rifle and several handguns in the home, along with approximately 8,000 rounds of ammunition, which were ignited by the blaze. Ammunition began exploding from the heat of the fire.' Exploding? Time to reach for my coffee cup . . ." ...

"Sure, silence is golden. But shooters would do well to spend a little gold now to keep from suffering in silence down the road. Do you give much thought to your ears? To anyone’s? Hell, most shooters don’t. They shove some squishy plugs in there and call it good. I was that way, too, until we finally got tired of shouting at my dad and made him get some hearing aids. That’s when I decided I really didn’t want to go that way. So if you think about it and look around, you quickly find you’ve got options ranging in cost from a couple of bucks for a set of foam stopples up to many hundreds of dollars for sophisticated electronic gizmos that muffle the gun blast and let you carry on a normal conversation. ..." ...

"I may have mentioned before that my daily carry gun of choice is Ruger’s LC9 pistol. I like the gun’s size and the 9mm round it uses. Until now, I’d never really had the chance to shoot one of those .380 pocket pistols but I had heard many other’s opinions on them...whether I wanted to hear them or not. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a controversial round of sorts. There are just as many people saying that it’s perfectly fine for self defense as there are people saying it’s terrible. As I’ve mentioned before, ANY bullet size is better than no bullets at all. ... In the end, shot placement > bullet size in every case." ...

"A home defense shotgun could have many iterations, but the most important thing is that is accomplishes its namesake purpose: defending your home."

"It’s important to remember that a home defense shotgun doesn’t take a specific shape for all who need one; it is a personal choice and has a ton of personal input from the gun owner. My home defense shotgun will be different from yours. "You gotta give Josh Horwitz [above] props. The Executive Director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence's anti-gun polemic in the Huffington Post is the worst case of exactly backwards misinformation I’ve ever read. And I bet he knows it. Oh Ye of Little Faith: The Pro-Gun Movement’s Total Disregard for Our Constitution is so absurd I can only conclude that he wrote it just to tweak gun rights advocates’ nipples. Start with this: 'Nugent’s remarks [about the whole world sucking and America sucking less] got me thinking about a seldom discussed but critical aspect of the modern pro-gun movement: Its total lack of faith in the system of government established by our Founders in the U.S. Constitution.' "Imagine a product that serves no purpose but to kill people and each year causes many deaths. Surely politicians would compete with each other to pass laws to control it. If nothing else, the manufacturer of such a product, which is foreseeably used to murder people, would be held liable. Not, though, if the product is an assault weapon. The federal law banning assault weapons expired in 2004, and another federal law precludes civil liability for gun manufacturers. It is time to re-enact the Federal Assault Weapons Ban and to repeal a federal law adopted in 2005 that protects gun manufacturers from civil liability." ...

This, in itself, should come as no surprise, having been noted, again, and again, and again in the past. "It’s a bizarre case, detailed by the on-line SeattleP-I.com’s Levi Pulkkinen, in which there are no good guys, and a whole lot of bad. It is also proof positive that the philosophy behind Hard Time for Armed Crime – an idea from the firearms community and championed years ago by KVI’s morning anchor John Carlson – can work effectively." ...
