"Forty-six-year-old Joyce Cordoba stood behind the deli counter while working at a Wal-Mart in Albuquerque, N.M. Suddenly, her ex-husband – against whom Ms. Cordoba had a restraining order – showed up, jumped over the deli counter, and began stabbing Ms. Cordoba. Due Moore, a 72-year-old Wal-Mart customer, witnessed the violent attack. Moore, legally permitted to carry a concealed weapon, pulled out his gun, and shot and killed the ex-husband. Ms. Cordoba survived the brutal attack and is recovering from her wounds."

"This raises a question. How often do Americans use guns for defensive purposes? We know that in 2003, 12,548 people died through non-suicide gun violence, including homicides, accidents and cases of undetermined intent." ...

... "The amendment reads: 'A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.' These 27 words have a deeper meaning after reading about the loss of the right to bear arms in Restoration England."

"The right to keep and bear arms was as rare in old England as it is today. The right of English subjects to own weapons was not asserted in the Magna Carta, or in The Petition of Right."

An allegedly drunken man arrested in Norway for carrying a rifle was a member of the national guard.

Aftenposten reports police in Bodo were called after a man was seen visibly drunk and stumbling around the downtown, dropped a bag and his government issued AG3 rifle fell out.

The man was arrested on a train heading to a national guard exercise.

His rifle was confiscated and he spent the night in the drunk tank.

No ammunition was found either in the rifle or in the man's luggage.

An investigation is underway to determine what charges the man will face.

National guard Chief of Staff Magne Larsen said they regret the incident and are taking it very seriously.
