No one in the Middle East has yet "claimed responsibility" for the massacres of last Tuesday. So perhaps it would help if someone in the United States did. The obvious candidate is the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA.Gov), which is guilty on two counts:

1. It failed to prevent last week's hijackings.

2. The many elaborate "security" measures contributed directly to the transformation of a small contained horror into a mass catastrophe.

"First, we must remember that we've gone down this road too many times before. We have suspended freedom of speech, press and assembly during wartime and other crises, to the point of sending prominent Americans to jail for long terms for uttering unpatriotic words.

And always we've looked back in wonderment that we could have been so stupid, that we could have so easily cast aside our democratic heritage." --Paul McMasters

Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, alluding to the planning in both countries, said the United States is preparing "a very broadly based campaign to go after the terrorist problem where it exists."

And in an indication of the breadth of military action being contemplated by the administration in response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, Rumsfeld told reporters that the U.S. military would "use the full spectrum of our capabilities."

In the wake of the terrorist attack, Americans seem almost eager to trade off their freedom for illusory security. In response, politicians are pushing to expand the government's power to monitor people's lives, public and private.

The article is clearly against these devices, but the description, picture and video are interesting.

"Beneath the digital face lies a .22-caliber pistol a phone gun capable of firing four rounds in quick succession with a touch of the otherwise standard keypad."

(Headline by Gandhi)

"The warmongers have got their flags up, so we need to get ours up. Put this flag on your website. If you dont have a website, send it to someone who does. Put a peace bumper sticker on your car. Buy a peace flag and fly it. I never thought Id fly a peace flag, but if it can prevent more sorrow, itll be a small price to pay.

Let it not be said that I remained silent when my country unleashed the dogs of war on innocent people." --Rob Moody

Among the lessons that last Tuesday's terrorist attacks on the World
Trade Center and the Pentagon taught us is one that gun-rights advocates
have always known: People with hate in their heart are going to find a way
to kill, guns or not.

As the immediate shock of the September Eleventh attacks transmutes into long-term anger, Americans are asking tough questions. Members of the gun rights community have their own views on airline security, probably not shared by mainstream society, but worth considering in light of the extraordinary challenges that face us.

Members of the gun rights community are wondering what would have happened if a passenger on one or more of the doomed jetliners had been armed with a simple handgun.

The two firefighters, one an engine driver and the other a firefighter, showed up for work Saturday morning, saw the flag on the truck and refused to ride, telling crew members that the flag represented oppression, said Miami-Dade Fire-Rescue spokesman Lt. Louie Fernandez.

The crew chief then ordered the flag's removal so that the seven-member unit could answer 911 calls, Fernandez said.
