How Do Gun Bans Affect Non-Gun Owners?
Submitted by: Bruce W. Krafft

"Gun bans wrongly and wrongfully affect non-gun owners because bans disarm only the law-abiding. Nothing new, until you see how this spreads. As usual, criminal laws do not interfere with crime until after-the-fact; gun control interferes with only the honest and before-the-fact, and then again after-the-fact, often within a system which victimizes constituents twice. Lifting gun bans can enhance crime control and lift government burdens. For some officials, carrying burdens is desirable, but it is an abuse of the law against the interests of the United States." ...

"You know... I've been in the Army for seven years - both active duty and National Guard. One of the biggest things that is always drilled into our heads is that we are accountable for taxpayer money, which pays us all. We are to report fraud, waste and abuse if we see it. We are the guardians of the tax dollars that give us equipment, our salary and fund our missions."

"As far as I know, the ATF -- a government agency funded by taxpayer dollars -- has the same critical responsbility. So how many more audits... how many more agents... how many more manhours will be spent on shutting up Ryan Horsley of Red's Trading Post? How much more taxpayer money will be wasted on retribution and the attempt to shut down a legitimate businessman? ..." ...

"'Although gun grabbing politicians have been using various subterfuges to bring about a partial or total disarmament of the American citizenry, the data indicates that the United States is gun country and that our citizens are aware of and resist these attacks on our basic freedoms and traditions,' gun rights expert John M. Snyder said here today."

"He noted that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey now are trying to use the threat of terrorism as a wedge with which to promote additional restrictive gun control legislation." ...

"'The Brave One,' released by Warner Bros last week, grossed $14 million and topped the weekend box office."

"But for my money it's a real loser."

"Jody Foster plays a murderous vigilante who kills bad men--and interestingly enough, only men--right and left. Her blood-spattering spree is triggered by watching her fiancee get killed before her eyes."

"I'm disappointed that Foster--who won an Oscar for her intelligent and poignant performance as a rape survivor in 'The Accused'--has chosen to portray a woman who buys a gun and turns into an almost cartoon-like shooting machine." ...

"The state Game Commission is setting traps in Hickory Run State Park after a bear bit a 12-year-old camping with his Boy Scout troop."

"The bear entered the boy's tent Sunday night and bit down on his sleeping bag, probably trying to get candy bars and cereal hidden there, but bit the boy instead, Tim Conway, a game commission spokesman, said Tuesday." ...

"A Medford high school teacher filed suit in Jackson County Circuit Court Tuesday challenging the school district's policy prohibiting employees from carrying concealed weapons on campuses."

"Identified only as 'Jane Doe,' the teacher asserted she has the right to bring her concealed handgun to school to defend herself from a violent ex-husband against whom she has obtained a restraining order."

"Drawing national media attention, the case could clear an ambiguity in state law about schools' authority to forbid employees from doing what the public is allowed." ...

"... Lawmakers in all but two states have shown they understand the need for self defense by formally recognizing a citizen’s right to carry a pistol. Almost 20 years ago, the Oregon legislature understood self defense when it ordered Sheriffs to issue permits to any citizens except felons and nuts."

"And then there’s the Medford School District."

"Last week Medford officials subjected a classroom teacher to threats of arrest and search if she didn't confess to carrying the gun. The teacher's ex-husband has threatened her life and she has obtained a restraining order. She also has a permit to carry a pistol, just like an estimated 100,000 Oregonians. ..." ...

"Since Republican presidential hopeful Fred Thompson has jumped out of the starting gate running on Second Amendment issues, perhaps we should look at Thompson’s actual voting record with regard to the right to keep and bear arms."

"Before we get to the voting record, I should add that I’ve been hearing persistent rumors that the Thompson campaign is buying exclusive rights to gun shows in the southeast in order to ensure that the competition has no voice in this debate. While legal and perhaps effective, this tactic doesn’t smack of the openness most Americans desire from their political representatives. ..." ...

Preliminary results are in and it appears as if we helped knock off one of Bloomberg’s Mayors, Ernie Davis in Mount Vernon. Democrat challenger Clinton Young holds a 52-48% lead over Davis. Young has not declared victory nor has Davis conceded yet. Either way, Davis would still be on the November ballot on the Conservative line, but without the Democrat line it would pretty much be over for him.

"Suggesting that she might consider joining a ground-breaking lawsuit to stem the flow of illegal weapons, Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon met yesterday with New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg - the architect of that litigation - to talk about ways both cities can improve education and fight crime." ...

"'All of these incidents that are happening - all of these victims that are being killed - are from illegal guns,' Dixon said as she stood outside New York's City Hall. 'We need to make sure that our base is solid and that we track this information. Once we are through [with that], I will consult with our city solicitor's office about the potential of joining the lawsuit.'" ...

Soon it won't be just the BATFE destroying your business, or your life. That is why it is imperative that this abusive, vindictive agency be stopped. It must be brought down.
