From the late 1950s to the early 2000s, two of the most popular rimfire cartridges on the planet were the 22 Long Rifle and the 22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire, otherwise known as the 22 WMR or 22 Mag. Generations of shooters (myself included) were taught how to shoot using a 22 LR bolt-action rifle before hunting varmints like coyotes and groundhogs with a 22 WMR.

Writing over the weekend at CalMatters, a California surgeon asserted, “The answer to America’s firearm injury epidemic must start with rewriting the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment.”

Dr. John Maa practices medicine at the MarinHealth Medical Center in Marin County. He served as an Army officer during Desert Storm, but in writing his nearly-700-word Op-Ed, he appears to have overlooked the landmark 2008 Supreme Court ruling in District of Columbia v. Heller, which affirmed the Second Amendment protects “an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia.”

Crowded. The lines are long, people are obnoxious and you just want to get out. You find your escape in a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant, underappreciated and underhyped, though with the best food you’ve had in some time.

In the national debate over banning AR-15-style rifles, there has been a noted lack of information other than anecdotal and heavily biased reports. On the gun ban side, led by President Joe Biden, the rifle is an “assault weapon” used to kill people. On the gun fan side, led by the National Rifle Association, it’s a tool for hunting and plinking just like every other rifle.

A Washington, D.C. , regulatory limit on how much ammunition a concealed carry handgun permit holder can carry was removed after a local resident filed a lawsuit in federal court this summer.

On Sept. 14, Robert J. Contee III of the Metropolitan Police Department gave notice to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia Circuit that he had repealed the district's ban on carrying more than 20 rounds, citing an emergency basis for the decision.

Wondering what federal law says regarding individuals who do not have a Federal Firearms License (FFL) that need to ship firearms? Well, if you go to the website for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), select the Resources pull-down menu, and click on the Firearms option under Q&A, you will find links to a number of categories, although “shipping firearms” is not one of them. But you can find the information by clicking on the “Unlicensed Persons” link.

David Hogg has probably never been laid, which is likely why he’d find it so easy to write off having kids in America. Hogg went on what can only be described as a word-vomit tirade where he wrote things like, “kids are the new boats,” and “kids are nice but most people can’t afford them,” as if humans didn’t have children before money was invented. He also noted that, a “BIG reason I will never have kids in the US- I refuse to raise kids in a country that values fucking guns over children’s lives.”

When the military selects a weapons platform, the design and features are distilled and translated down to the consumer market in a range of products. We can see some of that in the third iteration of SIG SAUER’s MCX rifle platform.

Promising the lightest steel shotgun in the field, the new Ultraleggero 12 gauge double from Beretta has made its way to America. Introduced last year in Europe, the Ultraleggero, Italian for "Ultralight," fills the hole Beretta had when the company discontinued the Onyx and 687 UL series almost a decade ago. Whereas the older model used an Ergal alloy receiver reinforced with a titanium plate to save weight, the new Ultraleggero has a modified 690 series steel receiver with internal relief cuts, an aluminum trigger group, an increased cavity in the stock, and deletes the side ribs to produce a 6.4-pound over-and-under that still sports a pair of 26-inch Steelium Optima-Bore HP barrels with full, 3-inch magnum chambers.

Recently, Pew Charitable Trusts explored gun buyback programs and their ability to reduce crime. A “gun buyback program,” or GBP, is a local government program that purchases unwanted firearms. The premise that the government is purchasing “back” privately-owned firearms is nonsense because the government never owned them in the first place.

The next time some anti-Second Amendment extremist claims that those of us who object to gun control aren’t trying to prevent school shootings, the objection of Senator Chris Murphy to Ted Cruz’s School Security Enhancement Act should be thrown in their face.

Serious shooters/handloaders know how much work it is, or at least it can be, to find a really good load. There are so many choices of powders and bullets the search for the best load from one particular gun is endless. Shooting black powder sixguns is so much simpler. All one has to do is dump a little powder in the chamber, seat the ball, cap and shoot. So simple. Or is it?

The ISO is a Geneva-based non-governmental organization that consists of a network of “standards bodies” from around the globe that create consensus across various countries and industries.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks. — Thomas Jefferson, Encyclopedia of T. Jefferson, 318, Foley, Ed., reissued 1967.
