"The 24th annual Gun Rights Policy Conference will be held this weekend at the Airport Renaissance Hotel in St. Louis, MO and one look at the final agenda tells us that it could be a sizzler."

"The GRPC is the brainchild of Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation and chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, and Joe Tartaro, SAF president and executive editor of Gun Week. This year, it is expected to attract more than 700 of the nation's leading gun rights advocates and grass roots activists." ...

"'American firearm owners form the cutting edge of the modern freedom movement in the United States,' gun rights expert John M. Snyder said here today."

"A former National Rifle Association editor, Snyder is Public Affairs Director of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, Treasurer of the Second Amendment Foundation, and Manager of Telum Associates, LL.C. Shotgun News last year named him the senior rights activist in Washington."

"Snyder said the Senate's recent 68-30 vote allowing Amtrak passengers to transport handguns in their checked luggage may indicate that, 'politicians are beginning to get the message. The American people are fed up with efforts at government control coming from Washington.'" ...

... "Anyway, I am not surprised to see the anti-defense zealots have returned to the scene of a crime enabled by their insistence on mandated helplessness. The Center for Peace Studies and Violence Prevention is hosting a showing of ABC's propaganda hit piece on gun ownership, 'If I Only Had a Gun.'

"...Say, do you think there will be any armed 'Only Ones' there, you know, to keep everybody safe in case not everybody respects the rules...?"

"A federal appeals court in San Francisco on Thursday will confront America's next big gun rights question: Whether or not the Second Amendment prevents state governments from enacting anti-gun laws."

"The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in a case that's likely to decide whether the Bill of Rights' guarantee of a right to 'keep and bear arms' restricts only the federal government and the District of Columbia -- the current state of affairs -- or whether it can be invoked to strike down intrusive state and local laws too."

"In an earlier ruling in April, a three-judge panel of the same court ruled that the Second Amendment did apply to the states ..." ...

"PajamasTV's Steven Crowder goes undercover exposing UC Berkeley's liberal bias and the indoctrination underway in its classrooms. You won't believe the hilarious and alarming interactions Steven has with the Berkeley students." ...

"There is also a dearth of knowledge about firearms and the Second Amendment."

"Here's one of my favorites: 'The Second Amendment was written in a very different time, socially. It was a time when people lived mostly rural lives, and it was also a time after a huge rebellion against an 'unjust' government.' ..." ...

When gun-banners refer to a 'Living Constitution,' what they really mean is a Constitution that can be

"When Barbour invites you to test out their gear in its natural environment on the grounds of Orvis Sandanona, America's oldest permitted shooting club, you cancel your weekend brunch plans and go. At least that was my thinking. How could I resist experiencing the ultimate culmination of unabashed manliness? The facility offers fly fishing instruction, a shooting school, gun safety classes, and, of course, world-class courses for sporting clays. Sandanona was the perfect day trip from New York City to blow off steam from my 9-to-5 TPS-report-generating existence. For $75, you, too, can soak up the outdoors, bond with your fellow shooters, and try your hand at 100 clays. ..." ...

... "... first, allow me to say something about firearms. I am completely in favor of dropping all of them into that deep trench said to exist just beyond the Redondo Beach pier." ...

"But that, for about 250 million reasons, will never happen. Nor do I think that this new gun law will do any more than all the other gun laws to stop L.A.'s Avenues gang (192 shooting victims in the last three years) or any other gang member from obtaining ammunition."

"And we're dreaming if we think that laws will somehow stop the buying of ammunition by law-abiding citizens who might go suddenly and inexplicably berserk, shooting up colleges, high schools or you and me. " ...

"Drugs, artillery emplacements, napalm, prostitution - sometimes it seems like the best things in life are illegal. For some reason, the fascists who control this country don't believe in your God given right to smoke meth and man a 155-millimeter Howitzer."

"With one swift slash from a samurai sword, John Pontolillo made a convincing case for ... private ownership of handguns?"

"Oh, you betcha." ...

"Let's ponder how the scenario would have played out had Pontolillo been armed not with a samurai sword, but a handgun." ...

"I can see the scenario: Pontolillo says to Rice, 'Mr. Burglar, I'd like you to meet two of my best buddies ever, those esteemed Americans Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson. You might want to stay put until police arrive.'"

"And Rice would have done so. Or fled. Bottom line: He'd be alive today to tell the tale. So private ownership of firearms actually saves lives, and could have saved Rice's." ...

Unless the state party switched and came to Crabill's aid, Pratt said his organization would write its members telling them not to send their donations to the state party or statewide candidates but to Crabill."

"The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has told Tennessee gun dealers to disregard a state statute that exempts firearms made and sold inside Tennessee from federal gun laws and registration."

"The ATF says the federal laws still apply regardless of the state’s move." ...

"'This bill simply asserts that if a firearms and/or ammunition is made totally within the state of Tennessee, then the federal government has no jurisdiction over that item in any fashion, so long as it remains in the state and outside of interstate commerce,' Sen. Mae Beavers, R-Mt. Juliet, the bill’s sponsor, said on the Senate floor when it passed there in June." ...

"Ramon Perez, a homeschooling father of four beautiful children and a part-time lay preacher, was a rookie police officer in Austin, Texas when he responded to a domestic violence call in January 2005." ...

"Perez believed the use of potentially lethal force [a Taser] in that situation was unwarranted, unconstitutional, and illegal. It would also have violated the 'use of force' policy established by the Austin Police Department. Nonetheless, his refusal to carry out an illegal order would cost him his job. ..." ...

"Irrespective of the outcome of Perez’s lawsuit, two things are quite clear:"

"First, although extraordinary efforts are made to retain police who commit crimes of violence against innocent people under color of 'authority,' police who refuse orders to commit such acts can expect summary termination;"

"Second, Ramon Perez is a man of uncommon integrity ..." ...

"First, the shots rang out. Then came the screams."

"A woman's lifeless body lay on the cement. The man who had shot her was down, too, a self-inflicted gunshot to his head, his breathing too shallow to detect."

"'Someone's shooting in our parking lot ... please hurry, hurry, hurry!' a caller pleaded with a 911 dispatcher. 'Come on, hurry!'"

"The pleas were useless: Canton police said that 33-year-old Patricia Williams, a Detroit police officer, was already dead, and her killer and husband -- Detroit homicide Detective Edward Williams, 36 -- had fatally turned the gun on himself."

"The Tuesday morning deaths were a marriage of two endemic problems plaguing police departments nationwide, experts said: domestic violence and suicides." ...

Submitter's Note: Endemic problems? Does that mean that cops are more likely than the rest of us to be wife beaters and/or suicidally deranged?

"Cops really think they are above the law, and the situation is getting worse. A recent story from Chicago has a cop arresting the head nurse of a hospital emergency room because she said they had to follow legal and medical protocol regarding the drawing of blood from an alleged drunk driver."

"Obviously, following the law was much too complicated for the Chicago cop."

"Can anyone imagine a cop doing this even 10 years ago or at least 20 years ago? American police forces really do think of themselves as members of an occupying army and little else."

"Bullet-makers are working around the clock, seven days a week, and still can't keep up with the nation's demand for ammunition."

"Shooting ranges, gun dealers and bullet manufacturers say they have never seen such shortages. Bullets, especially for handguns, have been scarce for months because gun enthusiasts are stocking up on ammo, in part because they fear President Barack Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress will pass antigun legislation — even though nothing specific has been proposed and the president last month signed a law allowing people to carry loaded guns in national parks." ...

"St. Paul College has gotten an all clear from police after a three-hours-plus sweep of the campus failed to uncover a man with a gun -- as reported earlier by a student." ...

"The state's 'conceal and carry'[sic] statute does ban weapons possession even with a permit on public- and private-school property up through 12th grade, but not on college property." ...
-------

KABA Note: After almost six-and-a-half years the media still get it wrong. Minnesota's 'permit to carry' law says nothing about concealment, rather that you need a permit for a weapon "on or about the person's clothes or the person".

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the government — and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws. — EDWARD ABBEY
