"Superior Court Judge Salvatore Agati ordered Billy Jackson held in lieu of $1 million bond and continued the case to Oct. 7."
"Assistant State's Attorney Charles Stango had urged the judge to set a $5 million bond, pointing out that Jackson, 41, had previously been convicted of murder in Washington, D.C., and Kentucky."
"Jackson, of Sims Street, is charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault and carrying a pistol without a permit."
"According to police, Jackson shot a 30-year-old city man in the shoulder and the leg following a dispute at the Connecticut Small Game Club on Sept. 21."

"The study, which also compiled statistics on handgun violence across the state, focused on the 182 shootings in the city between Jan. 1, 1999, and March 31, 2002."
"The findings include:"• A handgun was used in 94 percent of the shootings.
• The median age of the victims was 23.
• Males accounted for 89 percent of the shooting victims. The national average is 89 percent.
• Blacks accounted for 87 percent of the shooting victims. The national average is 54 percent.
