"The terror at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi, where Islamic militants killed 67 defenseless people is over, Reuters reported early this afternoon. Emerging as a surprise hero is a former British Marine who, armed with a handgun, rescued 100 terrorized shoppers, returning dozens of times into the mall, according to Mail Online." ...

"Today I feel a need to rant about what I have been reading in the news. I see two mass murders still being talked about and each was the fault of our governmental systems. Yet for some reason, this has become a call for gun control as if that is the real problem. Then we have the media, who milks these stories for all they can get and by doing this, give others ideas and a way to make a statement on a national level."

"About the shooter arrested in the Chicago park shooting:"

"'Champ had been convicted of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon in July 2012 and was sentenced to boot camp at the Cook County Department of Corrections. McCarthy said the mass shooting likely would not have occurred had he gotten jail time instead.'" ...

"CONSIDER a country that allows the slaughter of so many innocent lives by the mass-murder weapon of choice in that country. Stricter laws would surely reduce the bloodshed that's taken nearly 400 lives and injured nearly 1,000."

"We're not describing America and its gun culture or the debate over restrictions on firearms. The death and injury toll listed above describes Pakistan and bombs. And it covers just the first six months of this year."

"A man who could enter a 'secure' U.S. military facility with a loaded gun could surely have entered it with a strap-on bomb ... This mass murder, like so many before it, unleashed the vitriol of anti-gun advocates who focus on the weapon more than they do the killer." ...

... "But the thing that most irks me about the British political class is the fanatical embrace of anti-gun policies. Consider some of these examples.
  • There was a proposal to prevent children from watching Olympic shooting events.

  • A British veteran of the Iraq war was arrested after his local trainees included a gun when mailing his possessions back to England.

  • ... a bookstore put shooting magazines in the porn section.

  • A man got arrested for finding a gun in his yard and turning it over to the police." ...

"When Detroit Gun Rights Examiner Rob Reed reported last week that University of Kansas Professor of Journalism David Guth wants the children of NRA members to be killed in mass shootings, he was unfortunately not describing a unique event. "Mr. Colion Noir is heard from on the Starbucks letter: 'Starbucks took an anti-gun stance. Not an anti-open carry stance, but an anti-gun stance.' Blaming open carriers for Starbucks 'falling out of the anti-gun closet' is misplaced persecution: 'The moment we start dividing and picking which type of carry is OK and which is not, we lose. Because before we know it, we’ll be so busy fighting each other we won’t notice that all of our rights are gone.' "In what is quite possibly the most egregious misapplication of zero tolerance policies in the history of public education, three Virginia Beach 7th-graders have been suspended, with two of them placed on long-term suspension through next June for playing with Airsoft guns on private property. The three suspended boys were playing with the guns while waiting for the school bus in one of the boys’ front yard. A neighbor called 911 and reported it, noting that the gun was a toy and that the boys were shooting toward a target in a tree with a net behind it to catch the pellets. Despite acknowledging that it was a toy, the neighbor told the 911 dispatcher that . . ." ...

They are both terrific guys and if you ever get a chance to meet them and shake their hands, you can, as I did, thank them for their work with The Truth About Guns. They are brothers of the gun and that’s enough for a good conversation but in both their cases, they are just fun guys to hang around with, too. "When you’re in a shooting competition, and especially when there are guns to be won on the prize table, there are no do-overs. If you completely and totally screw up a stage, you can’t call mulligan and try it again. You’re stuck with your score. However, if something goes wrong and it’s the fault of the match staff — like the targets weren’t reset or they lost your score — then you might get a re-shoot. "The Russian armed forces have been using the AK-74 pattern rifles since before their fun little excursion into Afghanistan. That version included many improvements over its 7.62×39 flavored predecessors and has actually been the main firearm of the Russkies longer than the original AK-47. But the time has come for the country to move on and enter the 21st century and toward that end, they are about to start phasing in the AK-12 (for 2012) rifle to all branches of service. There are some differences and improvements, but in general they will be doing what every pimply faced first-time gun owner does to their milsurp rifles to make them 'tactical:' slap rails on every imaginable surface . . ." ...

Give the reliability of modern semi-automatic shotguns, why would a shotgunner looking for speed choose pump-action over semi-auto? ... Anyway, Winchester chambers the new Super X Pump Field for 3” shells, tempting buyers with a hardwood stock and forearm in a satin finish with traditional checkering. Or you can get it in Mossy Oak Shadow Grass Blades camouflage. Both guns offer a choice between 26” or 28” barrels. Four bills for the former, four-and-half for the latter. I wrote virtually this same piece circa Newtown—my school newspaper refused to publish it—and now, look, it’s applicable yet again. How many times? How many times? How long does this go on, how many deaths does it take? What's it going to take--the members of Congress held at gunpoint? Would it be 'relevant' then? We’re raising our voices (some of us), we’re screaming, but our voices are weakening. ..." ...

Predictably, for his trouble he’s come in for the requisite ridicule from members of the Civilian Disarmament Industrial Complex and the mainstream media. Yes, we realize that’s redundant. Be that as it may, LaPierre couldn’t have come up with a better example to illustrate his point than an un-named former Brit marine (above) who’s being credited with saving 100 people during the 4-day Islamo-fascist siege of a Nairobi, Kenya shopping mall . . ." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
"Some people think that the Second Amendment is an outdated relic of an earlier time. Doubtless some also think that constitutional protections of other rights are outdated relics of earlier times. We The People own those rights regardless, unless and until We The People repeal them. For those who believe it to be outdated, the Second Amendment provides a good test of whether their allegiance is really to the Constitution of the United States, or only to their preferences in public policies and audiences. The Constitution is law, not vague aspirations, and we are obligated to protect, defend, and apply it. If the Second Amendment were truly an outdated relic, the Constitution provides a method for repeal. The Constitution does not furnish the federal courts with an eraser." --9th Circuit Court Judge Andrew Kleinfeld, dissenting opinion in which the court refused to rehear the case while citing deeply flawed anti-Second Amendment nonsense (Nordyke v. King; opinion filed April 5, 2004)
