Ohio lawmakers and other elected officials with a concealed carry permit would be allowed to bring guns into government buildings under a recently introduced bill.
House Bill 460, sponsored by Reps. Thaddeus Claggett (R-Licking County) and Bernard Willis (R-Springfield), would permit elected officials, including members of the state legislature, along with judges and magistrates to carry a concealed handgun in any government facility, such as the Statehouse or a city hall. |

“Johnson walked over to where Charles was sitting with the firearm already produced. He grabs the backpack, a brief struggle was produced, and Mr. Johnson raises a firearm and fires a single round. Mr. Charles would run out of the gym and into the lobby where he collapsed, followed immediately by Mr. Johnson, who said something to the effect of, ‘On God, I told you I was going to get you,’” a detective testified.
In response, Columbus City Council is requesting the Georgia General Assembly amend state law to prohibit firearms and other weapons in recreation facilities.
Residents told News Leader 9 they support the request. |

Republican Representative Robert Leadbeter, of Columbia, PA, has introduced preemption legislation that, if passed, could prohibit lawmakers from enacting Red Flag laws in Pennsylvania. Although such orders, also known as Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs), currently do not exist in the state, Pennsylvania’s Democrat-controlled House has been beating that drum in recent years, not to anyone’s surprise. |

Either way, what happened inside a house in the 3700 block of Boulevard Place late on a Sunday night in April of 2024 was a family tragedy as one brother shot to death another.
This week, the Marion County Prosecutor dismissed the murder charge against the shooter as a case of self-defense, as the man claimed his brother was attacking him.
“The DNA and forensic evidence was consistent with what the defendant was saying,” said former Prosecutor Mario Massillamany, who is not affiliated with this case. “And because it was consistent and corroborated his story, it bolstered his claim of self-defense.” |

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) recently sent a letter to Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chair Andrew Ferguson requesting the FTC investigate whether the Biden Administration’s Office of Gun Violence Prevention worked with anti-Second Amendment organizations to demand that the agency crack down on “deceptive and misleading claims” made by gun manufacturers. These efforts were supported by a group of anti-Second Amendment senators who wrote to then-FTC Chair Lina Khan asking her to investigate the gun industry's advertising practices. |

The agreement between SAF and the AGO includes SAF's withdrawal of its pending Public Records Act request for records from the Attorney General’s office.
“This investigation, launched by Bob Ferguson in an effort to discredit our work on behalf of gun owners and the Second Amendment, was a politically motivated legal fishing expedition,” Gottlieb declared triumphantly in a Wednesday news release. “Ferguson’s witch hunt wasted three years of our time and cost us thousands of man-hours and more than $200,000. We’re convinced this happened because he is a devoted anti-gun rights politician, and we are a national organization whose mission is to protect and defend the Second Amendment.”

A judge has dismissed multiple felony charges filed against a motorcyclist who allegedly shot another man during a road rage confrontation in Cedar City in June 2024, with the court ruling the defendant had discharged his handgun in self-defense.
Jason Bryan Stolworthy, 47, still faces one count of obstruction of justice and one count of reckless driving in connection with the incident. However, on Monday, 5th District Judge Meb Anderson dismissed with prejudice the two most serious charges Stolworthy faced: one count of felony discharge of a firearm with serious bodily injury, a first-degree felony, and one count of aggravated assault with serious injury, a second-degree felony. |

Unfortunately, and illogically, two gun rights groups—the Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) and Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) are having to fight the very same Trump DOJ in a Louisiana case focused on the rights of American gun owners who are 18, 19 and 20 years old. In that case, Reese v. ATF, the DOJ is working hard to avoid an injunction blocking enforcement of the federal ban on sales of handguns and handgun ammunition to adults under 21 years of age.
The DOJ has argued for a narrow proposed judgment that would leave those unconstitutional gun control laws in place for virtually everyone in the United States. And that’s not something the good folks at FPC can live with. |

SAF was targeted along with its sister organization, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, Merril Mail Marketing, the Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise, the Service Bureau Association, and Liberty Park Press, for which Gottlieb is publisher.
“We’re glad this is over,” Gottlieb observed, “but we’re not happy that Ferguson is not held responsible for the damage he did. It is our sincere hope that no future attorney general in Washington state will conduct a politically motivated attack under color of law against any non-profit organization with which he or she has a fundamental philosophical disagreement.” |

Accusations of wealth-based discrimination now surround Santa Clara County as pro-Second Amendment groups challenge its concealed carry permit system in court.
The Second Amendment Foundation and California Rifle & Pistol Association have launched a federal lawsuit against Santa Clara County, challenging what they argue constitutes the most expensive concealed carry weapon permit system in the United States. The case, Robert M. Blank, et al. v. Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department, directly confronts permit fees reaching $2,000 and mandatory psychological evaluations for all applicants, regardless of individual circumstances. |

A three-judge panel for the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit has upheld the “sensitive area” provision of New York State’s Concealed Carry Improvement Act (CCIA).
The CCIA bans the carrying of firearms in Times Square and on public transportation. Shortly after New York State lost at the Supreme Court in New York Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, the state legislature held an emergency session to pass a response to the historic defeat. |

...vetoed the legislation on June 20, 2025, arguing it “makes North Carolinians less safe and undermines responsible gun ownership.” The Senate successfully overrode the veto on July 29, 2025, with a 30-19 vote. However, the House vote has been repeatedly postponed, first from July 30 to August 26, then to September 22, and now appears delayed indefinitely.
North Carolina represents a crucial test case for Second Amendment rights. The state already scrapped handgun purchase permits in 2023, demonstrating previous support for gun rights expansion. However, the sustained opposition to SB 50 reveals that even incremental expansions of gun rights face fierce resistance in states previously considered secure for Second Amendment advocates. |

President Donald Trump's Department of Justice argued against Illinois' ban on high-powered firearms, which passed after the deadly mass shooting at the 2022 Highland Park Forth of July parade, in court on Monday.
In the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, DOJ Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, Harmeet Dhillon, said the government wants to ensure the right to bear arms is "not relegated to a second-class right." Dhillon also criticized claims from Illinois lawmakers that some guns included in the ban are more suited for military operations than self-defense. |

An iconic "service grade" Beretta 92 variant has been relaunched for those feeling nostalgic for Veggie Omelet MREs and Jingle Trucks. While the standard M9 was adopted by the U.S. military in 1985, by 2005, it was a bit obsolete at a time when Marines were fighting during the GWOT days in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Marines went to Beretta with their concerns, looking for a "COTS," or commercial off-the-shelf, solution that would be more desert-friendly and allow the quick installation of a weapons light. |

The federal Liberals will finally start buying back guns with a pilot program in Cape Breton, N.S. — about as far from Alberta as they can get without leaving Canada.
They might fear a range war when this fiasco finally moves west.
The feds are hapless, confused and disorganized. But Premier Danielle Smith and her Saskatchewan counterpart, Scott Moe, are locked and loaded (the only gun metaphor here, I promise).
The premiers know exactly what they’re doing and it boils down to this: they will not allow Ottawa to take guns from law-abiding citizens in their provinces. |

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s veto of the proposed firearms law amendments has reignited calls for tougher gun control in the Philippines, where illegal and unregulated guns continue to drive most violent crimes.
Advocacy group Climate Conflict Action (CCAA) praised the veto as a step toward public safety but warned that current laws remained insufficient.
“(Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) allows civilians to carry guns in public and register multiple firearms, weakening safeguards against criminal behavior,” the group said in a statement released on Thursday. |

Both the California Assembly and Senate voted this month to advance Assembly Bill (AB) 1263, authored by Assemblymember Mike Gipson (D-Carson), a member of the California Legislative Black Caucus (CLBC).
The bill seeks to tighten oversight of privately manufactured firearms—those made without serial numbers — by holding individuals who help produce them legally liable.
AB 1263 has now moved to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk for his approval or veto. |
