... "If the 20% claim is valid, the Obama campaign is 'effectively' disenfranchising minorities from being able to see the candidate in person for themselves, relegating them to being dependent on a media suffering from unprecedented public mistrust in order to make a political decision the president himself characterized as 'a choice between two fundamentally different visions for the future.'" ...

"It’s a common misconception that all celebrities are liberal, anti gun snobs. This is simple not true. Just like in any group of people there are those who support and those who oppose private gun ownership and self defense."

"Now, I’m sure many of you who normally despise keeping up with celebrities are thinking, 'Hey GunsSaveLives, why should we care what these celebrities think?'"

"Good question, and the answer is simple, it’s good, positive exposure for private gun ownership. You might not care what some celebrities think, but a lot of people [sadly] do, so having some on our side certainly doesn’t hurt."

"Let’s take a look at a few celebrities that are 'pro gun'." ...

"Traditionally the gun rights movement in America has been rather low keyed, focusing not on the ideological and political foundation that undergirds the push for firearms rights but on specific legislation aimed at expanding the right to carry guns, such as less restrictive concealed carry laws or legislation that allows open carry."

"But a new report published Friday in Human Events indicates that a new gun culture is emerging in America that gives conservatives a reason for hope." ...

"Given America’s number one gun rights org’s financially fruitful fear-based fundraising, it was only a matter of time before the NRA indulged in a little SHTF day dreaming. americanrifleman.org asks “If you had to choose one gun—and only one gun—to get you through a disaster (be it traditional or zombie-related), what would it be?” Needless to say, the answers in the comments section stretch from Tuscon to Tucumcari. As they may here. But first, let’s have a quick look at the NRA scribes’ choices. Above, Mark Keefe’s Springfield Armory SOCOM 16, chambering 20 rounds of 7.62×51 mm NATO. The Cost of Reloaded Ammo vs. Factory Loads: The cost of freedom?

"There are many reasons why shooters reload ammunition: some handload because they want to improve accuracy, others because they have trouble readily finding the proper caliber ammunition for their gun and still others because they need more wallop to get the job done right the first time. But perhaps the biggest reason many shooters become reloaders is the cost and in the days of a slow economy with everyone just scratching gravel to get by, saving a few dollars wherever you can doesn’t hurt. The question is, how many dollars (if any) are you saving?" ...

"The latest rumor making its way through the darker corners of the internet is an inaccurate spin on the U.N.'s never-ending mission to disarm the American people. The rumors vary, but some have wrongly claimed that the U.S. has secretly adopted a U.N. Arms Trade Treaty, subjecting Americans to the schemes of U.N. gun controllers."

"The confusion stems from a misunderstanding of the differences between July's month-long U.N. Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) and the Second Review Conference for the U.N. Programme of Action on Small Arms and Light Weapons (POA) that took place August 27 through September 7. The ATT and POA, while having many of the same anti-gun supporters and objectives, are two distinct U.N. initiatives." ...

I am impressed as well but the overall lack of its use and the increased cost/round concern me. I know that round for round 6.8 SPC ammo is about the same right now, but given the increased popularity of the 6.8 with many military agencies, I am betting that over time the round will become more available (just like the 5.56 is now) and will become less expensive. Not necessarily first handgun, first rifle or first shotgun, but specifically their first firearm in general. Some are apprehensive and nervous about things like 'firepower, kick and intimidation factor'. And while starting with a rimfire for the purpose of affordability, marksmanship & safety training, and bulk shooting is something I’ll typically recommend to most people for the purpose, many are adamant about stepping up to the big boys right off the bat." ...

"A few updates on carrying the S+W Shield on a daily basis…
  1. It’s VERY easy to carry. I forget I’m wearing it most of the time.

  2. Because it’s so thin, my 'carry pants' don’t fit well.

  3. The Crossbreed MiniTuck is fantastic. It’s comfortable, keeps the gun where it should be and allows for a good grip on the gun during the draw."
"The biggest issue I’ve had so far is dealing with spare magazines. The Shield doesn’t use a single stack or a double stack magazine: It’s more a stack-and-a-half, which means that it’s too wide for 1911 magazine pouches but is too small for double stack magazine pouches." ...

"When it comes to being in a gunfight, the only rule is to survive. The best gunfight to survive is the one you avoid. Any defensive training instructor, whether involving guns, knives or martial arts will tell you that the first defense is to run away, no matter how good you are. That remains good advice. I have used it in good stead myself, and have several personal accounts from friends and family who were able to run away and live, even though they were armed ..."

"I owe Dave Steig a response. After the Aurora, Colo. movie house massacre in late July, I challenged the NRA, and all Second Amendment champions, to acknowledge the responsibility that goes with their freedom to own — and in more and more states to carry — guns. Rights and responsibilities go hand in hand, I wrote, but gun advocates don't seem to feel any responsibility to do anything that might make it harder for madmen to acquire small arsenals and shoot up public places [Maximum freedom, minimal responsibility, Viewpoints, Aug. 1]."

"I enjoy the shooting sports and appreciate well-made firearms. I believe in our Second Amendment and, as a veteran and someone in law enforcement, I defended our rights and laws. I am also voting for President Barack Obama in November."

"Obama has done nothing to threaten our gun rights. All the dire predictions and rumors put out by the National Rifle Association and extremist gun groups have, as in the past, proved to be unfounded. Gun sales are strong and some companies cannot keep up with the demand." ...

"President Obama is pro-gun control to his core, and his past is full of anti-gun legislation and anti-gun rhetoric that provides a clear indication of where the Second Amendment is headed in the next four years if we’re silly enough to give him a second term."

"For example, as a state senator in Illinois, Obama supported one-gun-a-month purchase limits; he supported legislation that banned the use of handguns for self-defense (even in one's own home); he supported an Illinois bill that would have not only banned but also confiscated 'assault weapons' had it passed; and he supported a total ban on handguns." ...

"In Rensselaer County, many politicos feet tapping into the voters who just happen to have pistol permits is a way to bring up ballots in the November election."

"State Supreme Court Justice Patrick McGrath wasn’t shy about reaching out to these voters. The state Office of Court Administration wasn’t too pleased with McGrath’s campaign tactic. Take a look at this 2010 story to see what happened."

In the Rensselaer County Court race between Republican Debra Young and Democrat Chris Maier, the Troy City Court judge, it doesn’t hurt to have some firearms bona fides. Young’s campaign pushed out a release today to show she’s on the right side of bearing arms." ...

"What some might call a textbook case of gun law insanity is currently unfolding in Washington, D.C., and for residents of what Northwest natives prefer to call 'the real Washington,' it is a stark example of regulatory extremism."

"The Washington Times Monday morning tells the tale of Dwayne Hogue, a law-abiding citizen tripped up by a gun law that would never pass muster in the Evergreen State, with the possible exception of the City of Seattle’s far-left leadership, and perhaps some folks at Washington Ceasefire. Hogue got arrested essentially for being honest." ...

"A former East St. Louis police officer who stole a Rolex watch planted by federal agents as a test has been sentenced to 66 days in prison."

"Larry Greenlee, of Belleville, pleaded guilty in May to stealing the watch, which agents planted as part of an integrity test. ..." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: Assuming the Rolex was valued at more than $500 and less than $10,000 that should have been a Class 3 Felony which, according to this table would merit 2 to 5 years (not 2 months) plus a 15 year enhancement for "using" (i.e. possessing) a firearm during commission of the crime.
This guy must have had one Hell of a lawyer!
