"'Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro launched a nationwide disarmament program in Caracas over the weekend as the head of state tried to cap the alarming rates of violence endemic in his country, which has the second-highest homicide rate in the world behind Honduras,' Olivia Crellin of VICE News reported Tuesday. 'The plan, announced on September 20 — International Day of Peace — will see the Venezuelan government establish a $47 million fund to help establish 60 centers where citizens can voluntarily surrender their firearms.'"

"Note that’s just to establish the aptly-pegged surrender centers. ..." ...

"The grisly beheading of one woman and stabbing of another by an apparently crazed man who had just been fired from the company where it all happened in Moore, Okla., Thursday is big news in Seattle, where the gun control debate is taking on a new tone, because the knife-wielding suspect was shot by a company official who had a gun in the workplace."

"There has been much speculation about this incident, because the suspect, identified as Alton Nolen, a convicted felon who allegedly was trying to convert co-workers to Islam, chose a method of murder that has been in the news lately as part of the violence in the Middle East. But the fact that he was stopped by an armed citizen in the workplace is getting some attention, as well." ...

"'A state can be an example, or a warning,' noted a New Jersey attorney and gun rights leader who made it to Chicago yesterday for the Gun Rights Policy Conference, despite the continuing problems at O’Hare International Airport, which prevented several scheduled speakers from arriving for the 29th annual event."

"The remark, from Scott Bach, executive director of the Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs (ANJRPC), could be applied to Washington as well as the Garden State, where harsh gun control laws have turned many gun owners into criminals. Bach, who is also a member of the National Rifle Association’s Board of Directors, posed the question about the state’s lawmakers: 'What were they thinking?'" ...

"The 29th annual Gun Rights Policy Conference officially kicked off this morning in Chicago at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare. Approximately 275 good guy activists from throughout the nation are on hand in Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s murder city, learning about pro-gun rights strategies that have proven results in furthering Americans’ firearm civil rights. The stakes are high, of course, for everyday Americans. Chicago is a perfect example of what happens when rights-hating politicians impose racist, sexist and classist gun control schemes upon a population. Just this week in the Windy City, 54 people have been shot with four killed. In short, violent crime skyrockets and disarmed law-abiding people are slaughtered . . ." ...

"When the Obama administration inserted race and ethnicity inquiries into its federal form for gun purchases, industry leaders said the move lacks reason and may lead to racial profiling."

"'Last time I checked your race is not part of your criminal background,' said Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America."

"'Nobody can figure out why officials want this information because it clearly does not provide anything more about a person’s criminal background, than with a person’s criminal background-check.' In fact, criminal background checks ... are useless tools for fighting crime, he said. 'Out of 11 million background checks that were done over the last year of record, 14 resulted in convictions.'" ...

"Puffing on a Padron at Heroes & Legacies, the guys started talking about carrying illegally. No one would admit it publicly, but it was clear I wasn’t the only one who may or may not have carried a firearm where it was illegal to do so. Specifically (or not), CNN Headline News . . ." ...

"This week, it might be the gun nuts. We’ll see."

"Before we begin, it’s important to know who the gun nuts are. ... [T]he vast majority of gun owners who hunt or shoot skeet or target shoot are unfairly represented by the nuts who show up to political rallies with machine guns on their back."

"The gun nuts are the ones who are obsessed with guns. They fantasize about them, devote their lives to them, and want to carry them everywhere. They’re gun fetishists, and fetishists are always a little creepy and a little crazy. ..." ...

"The New Jersey Second Amendment Society (NJ2AS) is launching a Nationwide effort to save Ms. Allen from a mandatory minimum 5 year prison sentence for owning a legal gun."

"We are contacting Second Amendment and Liberty oriented groups all across the country asking them to have their members call the Atlantic County prosecutor John McLain at (609) 909-7800 to object to her mistreatment."

"In a stunning outbreak of sanity in the Garden State, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain has reversed his earlier decision to seek prison time for Shaneen Allen, a single mother from Philadelphia who was facing felony prosecution for misunderstanding concealed carry reciprocity rules. The decision came after John Hoffman, acting New Jersey Attorney General, issued statewide guidance to county prosecutors clarifying the application of New Jersey’s mandatory sentencing scheme to certain minor firearm violations. These developments mean that not only will Ms. Allen and her children be spared the ordeal ... but that other travelers who unwittingly violate New Jersey’s harsh laws gun laws may also avoid a similar nightmare." ...

"In the ten years since the federal assault weapons ban expired, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., has kept trying to renew the law, which she authored."

"In a press release this month honoring the 20th anniversary of the ban, she wrote, 'The evidence is clear: the ban worked.'"

"But gun violence experts say the exact opposite. 'There is no compelling evidence that it saved lives,' Duke University public policy experts Philip Cook and Kristin Goss wrote in their book 'The Gun Debate: What Everyone Needs to Know.'"

"A definitive study of the 1994 law ... found no evidence that it had reduced overall gun crime or made shootings less lethal. ..." ...

"For the first time in over three decades, the District of Columbia Council passed an emergency law allowing gun holders to publicly carry concealed handguns."

"On September 23, less than two months after a federal judge struck down the District’s long-standing prohibition on carrying weapons in public, city leaders fashioned an emergency law that does not interfere with the mandated rights of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. Washington, D.C. residents with registered handguns, in addition to nonresidents holding a state carry license, will be able to apply for a license to carry a concealed firearm within the District." ...

"Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino vowed Sunday to repeal Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's chief gun control initiative as he spoke to a pro-gun conference in Hauppauge -- one of several visits on his Long Island itinerary."

"Astorino, the Westchester County executive, decried Cuomo's SAFE Act, which riled many of the state's Republicans and upstate voters when the State Legislature passed it a month after [name redacted] used a semiautomatic assault rifle to kill 26 students, teachers and staff at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut." ...

"The Second Amendment Foundation has quietly won a significant federal court victory in a Pennsylvania case in which the judge has ruled that a man convicted of a serious misdemeanor crime several years ago, but who has demonstrated that he 'would present no more threat to the community' than an average law-abiding citizen, may not lose his Second Amendment rights under a federal gun control statute known as 922(g)(1)."

"The ruling, by Judge James Knoll Gardner for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, says that application of that statute to the plaintiff, Daniel Binderup, 'violates the Second Amendment.'" ...

"A legal victory for Second Amendment advocates will lead to a significant change in Hawaii’s firearms law."

"U.S. District Judge Michael Seabright has ruled Hawaii’s police chiefs must consider Steve Fotoudis’ application for a firearms permit."

"The Honolulu Police Department denied Fotoudis, a permanent legal alien in Hawaii and competitive shooter from Australia, the permit because of his status as an alien resident."

"But Seabright ruled unconstitutional Hawaii’s law prohibiting alien residents from applying for firearms permits." ...

"Who could have seen this coming? A country enacts draconian gun control legislation that makes it virtually impossible for citizens to own firearms and then calls for a complete civilian gun ban. That could be a lot of places, but today’s episode of 'Who Wants To Be A Police State?' takes us to Southern Australia, where Supreme Court Justice Michael David has declared, 'My view is I think our guns laws are pretty tight, they are not too bad. But my view on guns is not confined to that. In my view, and it is a fairly utopian view, I can’t see why anyone in this city should own a gun. I think a gun with a licence is just as dangerous as . . ."

"a gun without a licence. I think there should be a law that no-one is allowed to have a gun. ...'" ...

Holder resignation may be tied to Fast and Furious ruling by judge: Watchdog

"The surprise resignation of a key member of President Barack Obama's administration may be a political move to avoid the resurgence of interest in exposing corruption and misconduct -- even criminal activity -- within the office of the nation's Top Cop who is ordered this week to release information regarding Operation Fast and Furious, according to political insiders within the D.C. Beltway on Friday."

"While most of the news media and politicians have 'closed the books' on the Fast and Furious scandal, there is evidence that a federal judge's ruling ... has more to do with Holder's sudden resignation announcement on Thursday than Obama's hope to have a new attorney general confirmed by the Democrat-controlled Senate ..." ...

"Why, just don’t get pulled over."

"This is the advice of George Brown, a captain of the Oklahoma State Police, shared during an interview with a local NBC News affiliate in the wake of revelations that three Oklahoma cops (see here) have been arrested for sexually assaulting women. Asked how to avoid being raped by a cop, Captain Brown urged potential victims to '…follow the law in the first place, so you don’t get pulled over.'"

"Oddly, Brown seems to believe that a cop who would rape a motorist would somehow be reluctant to fabricate an excuse to pull over a potential victim he happened to find attractive. You know, the same way 'gun free' zones deter gun-wielding criminals." ...

"Pennsylvania cops told a woman that if she did not stop video recording them arresting her daughter outside their home, they would arrest her for felony wiretapping."

"The woman stepped inside her home to continue recording, which was when police stormed inside without a warrant and arrested her."

"'You don’t have the right to come into my home,' Kia Gaymon can be heard telling Collingdale police officer Carl White as he enters her home."

"As I sat in the middle of the desert at 10:00 PM in my truck preparing to spend the night ... I remembered that a short 15 hours earlier, I had told Smokey, the event organizer, 'This is going to be fun' as we slogged through the mud getting to the base camp, and he replied…"

"'This is going to be a clusterfuck.' Truer and more propehtic words have never been spoken. The Pecos Run n Gun of 2014 was in all ways a clusterfuck. I saw gun failures I’d only read about on the internet. I watched truck after truck get hopelessly quagmired. Blisters and sunburns became the norm. I watched fellow competitors fall waist deep in the water during the race and after. They were forced to cancel the main event Saturday. And I’ve honestly never had more fun." ...

"'As long as everybody has a gun we're all the same size,' said owner Kevin Cox."

"According to the owner, the idea started as a way to thank the law enforcement officers that often come into his restaurant, but soon other gun-carrying customers began asking for the discount also. He says he's happy to oblige." ...
