"The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) today announced a campaign to flood the White House with letters from American gun owners demanding that government put its energies into controlling the borders, rather than guns owned by law-abiding citizens."

"'We intend to tell President Bush that American gun owners are tired of taking the heat, and the rap, for increasing numbers of violent crimes committed by illegal aliens,' said CCRKBA Chairman Alan M. Gottlieb. 'We need to control our borders, not perfectly legal firearms. Our government should seriously restrict access to our country by people who have no right to be here, rather than restrict the gun rights of citizens who were born here.'" ...

"As a Jewish woman and Harvard-educated lawyer who practiced law in Los Angeles, Sandra Froman admits that, at least on paper, she doesn’t seem a natural choice to lead the National Rifle Association (NRA). But the Second Amendment, she said, is all about empowerment."

"'I’ve never met a gun I didn’t like,' said Froman, 55, a California native who moved to Tucson in 1985. 'I wish I had more time to practice. My favorite gun is normally the one I was able to take out most recently, but I shoot pistols, rifles, black-powder rifles.'" ...

"New Orleans is the perfect case study to appreciate what can happen – what does happen – when armed resistance and civilian authority in general are neutralized as they have been with the flood which separates the citizens from their armed protection. Violent predators then have nothing to fear from unarmed citizens." ...

"The idea of Martial Law, for instance, which sweeps up the innocent with the criminal because officials can’t tell the difference, is a zero-tolerance policy of a sort, and runs counter to the citizens’ active participation in their own recovery. The idea of putting 300 soldiers fresh from Iraq armed with rifles doesn't impress me, but worries me on whether they can tell the good guys from the bad guys. An armed citizen can tell the difference, and doesn't necessarily have orders to shoot to kill. There is such a thing as middle ground where no one has to get hurt." ...
