... "A few days ago a supporter of Oath Keepers donated an airline ticket for Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes to attend the upcoming 9-12 March on Washington DC."

Today, that same supporter also donated a ticket to DC for Oath Keeper Marine veteran David Hedrick, the veteran who took Congressman Baird to task at a town hall meeting. Go here to watch that video."

"As a result, Stewart Rhodes has invited David Hedrick to come to the 9-12 DC march as part of the Oath Keepers contingent, and to be a speaker at our dinner that same night, and David has accepted the invitation. We consider David’s action in calling out Congressman Baird on the violation of his oath to be an example of what needs to be done. ..." ...

"I'm going to cite one more idea from his article which reveals how deluded liberalism and leftism really are when it comes to the folly of gun control, fairness in politics in a free society, integrity in personal safety, and living in a nation of self-rule, not just rule." ...

"The Second Amendment Foundation, along with several individual plaintiffs, has filed a lawsuit challenging the District of Columbia's ban on carrying handguns in public."

"The Supreme Court struck down D.C.'s total ban on guns last year in District of Columbia v. Heller, affirming that the Second Amendment is indeed an individual right. However, D.C. residents are still forbidden to carry a firearm, concealed or otherwise, in public."

"Today over at the Washington Post, Cato Institute chairman Robert Levy has an intelligent op-ed explaining why he believes the D.C. ban will get knocked to the mat again:" ...

... "When it comes to spreading outright myths and disinformation, nothing beats e-mail, for its speed, its ability to turn lies and half-truths into gospel, and its remarkable success in fomenting hysteria."

"Which brings us around to SB 2099, a piece of legislation that rises from the dead more frequently than Jason, the hockey-mask-wearing killer of the Friday the 13th movie series. Starting sometime earlier this summer, and really building momentum in August, the latest version of the SB 2099 myth has been joined at the hip with a warning about HB 45, the notorious Bobby Rush legislation introduced earlier this year that would require registration of handguns, and other repugnant measures." ...

... "The people of the town hall meetings who wish not to have civil debate do not realize that their depredation of our First Amendment rights only erode that right further. The clowns showing up at these town hall meetings sporting loaded weapons are only eroding our Second Amendment rights with their blatant abuse of that right. Reasonable minds will prevail. We will have affordable health care in this country. To not pursue this endeavor is shameful, and at the least, irresponsible."

"I am numb with shock! How could it be accepted that weapons are being displayed in crowds where our president is speaking?"

Submitter's Note: Umm, they aren't.

"Recently, when President Obama was speaking to a group of veterans in Phoenix, Ariz., a dozen provocateurs[sic] with guns were spotted in the crowd[sic]. They proclaimed it was within their Second Amendment rights to carry arms, and U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey, R-Ga., staunchly defended them. He states that as long as brandishing guns[sic] is legal[sic], he, too, saw no reason to discourage Americans from showing up armed at public meetings." ...

Please take the time to read this essay from Kevin Baker's The Smallest Minority.

My two cents?

Kevin clearly articulates why, absent a "velvet revolution" a la Slovakia and the Czech Republic, civil war is unavoidable here in America in the near term.

"Gun-rights activists in Illinois are making another run at stereotypes in Chicago in less than one week--and they may need some help. Chicago is known across the nation as a stronghold of the gun-control movement, and one way anti-gun politicians have maintained that status for decades is to portray gun rights as a racial issue--a conflict between black and white voters. Voters are told that rural white racists who collect guns and urban black men who can't be trusted with weapons are the culprits behind Chicago's rampant violent crime.""

"The new police chief ... wants to see 'the great majority' of roughly 75 discipline cases pending before the civilian Police Commission end with little or no punishment for officers accused of minor misconduct."

"Those cases, he said, include charges such as use of inappropriate language, being discourteous, failing to properly fill out a police report or a first-time misdemeanor drunken-driving arrest. They would also most likely involve first-time offenders rather than officers with a long history of complaints against them." ...

"The order was handed down on Monday by Acting Judge President Jeanette Traverso, who at the same time slapped down an attempt by Mthethwa to distance himself from the bungling of his predecessor."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

The mayor is proposing a local law that would impose a one-year jail sentence and fine of up to $10,000 for offenders.

The law would use the same definition of intoxicated as the legal limit for driving.

A bill was introduced in the state Assembly earlier this year that would suspend or revoke the firearm license of a person in possession of a firearm while drunk.

Many states, including South Dakota and Missouri, have laws similar to what Bloomberg is proposing for the city.

"The Troy Police Department is trying to get guns off city streets. The department is getting ready to hold its first ever gun buyback program. The event will be held this weekend, Saturday, September 5th, from noon until 6pm. ... People can turn in their guns, no questions asked, and get a $150 gift certificate that can be used at any store at Crossgates Mall."

"While this is the first gun buyback program for the Troy Police Department, it's not the first for our area. The Victory Church in Albany has held several gun buyback days in Albany, Schenectady and Troy. Since the creation of that program nearly 200 guns have been taken off area streets."
