California Gov. Gavin Newsom has proposed a 28th constitutional amendment to “enshrine in the Constitution common sense gun safety measures that Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and gun owners overwhelmingly support—while leaving the 2nd Amendment unchanged and respecting America’s gun-owning tradition.” Readers of all persuasions might spot a few problems.

He then refused to let her leave and charged at her again, police said. It was then authorities said she fired at him with a pistol that she grabbed from her purse.

Gun ownership is stepping in to help bridge a safety gap in New Mexico’s vast Indian country, according to gun experts in the state.

"No one is coming to save you" is a motto among Native Americans in New Mexico, according to Joe Talachy, a Pueblo of Pojoaque tribal officer who owns one of the few Native-founded gun stores in the U.S.

Talachy joined law enforcement in 2005, before serving as lieutenant governor and then governor of the Pojoaque Pueblo, notching a total of 11 years in tribal leadership. Now, he’s back in law enforcement and opened Indigenous Arms 1680 Ltd. Co., where locals have flocked to arm themselves against the unforeseeable and sign up for gun safety classes.

Published a few weeks ago is the 2023 Supplement to Firearms Law and the Second Amendment: Regulation, Rights, and Policy, coauthored by me and Nicholas Johnson (Fordham), George Mocsary (Wyoming, Director of the Firearms Research Center), Gregory Wallace (Campbell), and Donald Kilmer (Lincoln). In 330 pages, the supplement brings you up to date on the legal developments on the right to arms in 2022 and 2023.

The third edition of that textbook was published in late 2021. At 1,400 pages and $275, it's a bargain when calculated on cost per word. But the supplement is absolutely free, even if you didn't buy the main textbook.

Recently, 19 state attorneys general, led by Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen, filed an amicus brief in the case asking the circuit court to reverse the earlier decision denying the preliminary injunction and to ensure that the new two-pronged Bruen standard is used in considering the case.

“The Supreme Court was clear: Rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment are not second-class to other rights,” AG Knudsen said.

The most abundant of the sub-calibers is .22 LR, but instead of the obvious question of “.22 LR for self-defense,”…the question is more like, why NOT?

It isn’t the solution for everyone because nothing is, but it can be a good choice for someone, and arguably for far more people in the continental US than you might think.

However, it isn’t without some pitfalls, which we’ll go over as well.

I haven't shot a TS9, so this isn't a review. I'm just passing on the information about the gun from the Taurus press release. If you're interested in purchasing one, Taurus says they are available now, and lists the MSRP at $500.

The TS9 is a full size handgun. It's a striker-fired polymer gun, chambered for the 9mm cartridge. Being full-size, it has a 17-round capacity. Just like most handguns in this category, the TS9 comes with two magazines.

NY: Why would anyone try to stop a violent assault on New York City subways now?

New York City’s subway system continues to be infested with crime, which is unsurprising when the most high-profile prosecution involving the subway is targeting a man who tried to protect other passengers from a criminal.

Last week, 60-year-old Laurell Reynolds was brutally beaten by a man for about two minutes while waiting for the subway in Harlem. That man has at least nine prior arrests on his record, including for two separate assaults, and yet he was free to roam New York City and beat a 60-year-old woman with her own cane.

Another gunman targeted innocent victims in another mass public shooting this week, this time in Jacksonville, Florida. The resulting political outcry from gun control activists is as predictable as it is pointless.

They'll demand red flag laws, waiting periods, and a minimum purchase age for firearms.

Never mind that Florida has had these laws on the books for years—they'll demand them anyway.

In the world of homegrown American handgun manufacturers, the “Big Three” are Colt’s Manufacturing Company, LLC, Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc. (S&W), and Sturm, Ruger & Co.

Ruger is the proverbial “new kid on the block,” having been founded by William Batterman “Bill” Ruger Sr. (1916-2002) and Alexander McCormick Sturm (1923-1951) in 1949, a full 94 years behind Colt and 97 years behind S&W. But once Ruger kicked off, it didn’t take the upstart long to catch up with its two biggest competitors in terms of name recognition and reputation for quality.

“Under the diversion agreement they didn’t charge him with lying and buying. But they could still charge him with that if they do it by Oct. 12. So let’s say they do that, what’s Hunter gonna do? He’s gonna go into court and he’s gonna say, ‘under the Bruen decision of the Supreme Court, this is unconstitutional, you can’t charge me,'” Wisenberg said.

U.S. gun sales have topped one million for 49 consecutive months, according to newly released data that has Second Amendment advocates and gun violence prevention groups at odds over its meaning and causes.

Americans' aggregate purchase of firearms has modulated somewhat, with two slight but noticeable dips in 2009 and 2017, but have generally trended upward since then, according to Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives data.

By now, word has gotten out about a 12-year-old boy in a Colorado school getting in trouble, temporarily, because of a small patch seen on his backpack. That boy is Jaiden Rodriguez, and he attends a charter school in Colorado Springs, Vanguard Secondary School.

The patch is a small reproduction of the Gadsden flag. This flag shows a field of yellow with a coiled rattlesnake and the bold words, declaring, "Don't Tread on Me."

The justices will hear oral argument on Nov. 7 in United States v. Rahimi, a challenge to the constitutionality of a federal ban on the possession of guns by individuals who are subject to domestic violence restraining orders. The question comes to the court in the case of Zackey Rahimi, a Texas man who became the subject of a restraining order after a 2019 argument in which he knocked his girlfriend to the ground and dragged her back to his car; a year later, after police found guns and ammunition in his house, he was charged with violating the federal ban.

If the Founding Fathers were able to revisit Independence Hall today and experienced the deadly firepower of the AR-15, the Second Amendment would read: “A well-regulated modernized Military, being necessary for the security of the USA, the right of the people to own weapons of war shall be prohibited for the security and safety of all citizens.”

“While local municipalities have a degree of autonomy in some issues, it is essential to ensure that any actions taken respect the rights and liberties guaranteed in our constitution. Montgomery County unequivocally violated the Second Amendment and demonstrated a disregard for the settled precedent in the Bruen case. An attack on our constitutional rights anywhere is an attack on them everywhere. My office will remain resolute in defending the rights of all Americans,” Attorney General Labrador said.

MRCTV readers and video viewers likely are aware of the important and long-standing battle between those who support the right to keep and bear arms and those who would exploit the power of government to attack that right. The former are people who employ logic, ethics, and principles in a peaceful, defensive practice of the fundamental right to self-defense. The latter typically are politicians, bureaucrats, pop media flacks, and so-called “educators” who rhetoric, statistical manipulation, and, often, the taxes paid by others to work against that fundamental right.

The dereliction of duty orders, while important and welcomed, do nothing to address these problems uncovered by The Post and Courier: magistrates who preside over cases where they have clear conflicts of interest, magistrates who refuse to listen to defendants’ claims of self-defense or even tell them they have a right to a lawyer and magistrates who consistently fail to apply the state’s criminal and civil laws as written. Justice Beatty has acted in a few of the most egregious cases, but not on all of them, confining suspensions mainly to magistrates who flat-out break the law.

From some signs around town, it is clear that HD.4420 has its opponents. Their clear leadership in Google Search statistics, make it clear they believe that this bill infringes upon their rights. I saw one sponsored piece that seemed to claim that all guns produced after 1940 will be confiscated.

I believe that our Second Amendment rights exist for a variety of good reasons. This bill will not affect most Americans’ right to own a gun. But, my goodness, that doesn’t mean we should allow a known racist 21-year-old to purchase weapons of war, does it?

The Biden administration is forcing the federal agency charged with overseeing the strictly-regulated firearm industry to tighten a vice grip on private gun owners, claiming if they privately sell guns and offer to sell more, they’re “engaged in the business.”

This is just the latest salvo from President Joe Biden, who declared from the debate stage in 2019 that the firearm industry is “the enemy.”
