“The Second Amendment protects and preserves that right, and the state of Idaho has a duty to protect the constitution and all the rights endowed upon us there.”
Words mean things. This is an excellent sentence, perfect were it not for this unfortunate phrase "endowed upon us". The Constitution doesn't "endow" rights, it guarantees them. The rights are endowed by our Creator, or by the laws of nature, if you prefer.
That phrase should be replaced with the simple, succinct word "guaranteed." The notion that our rights are "endowed" by any instrument or decree is dangerous, and the difference should be hammered home. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
You are bound to meet misfortune if you are unarmed because, among other reasons, people despise you....There is simply no comparison between a man who is armed and one who is not. It is unreasonable to expect that an armed man should obey one who is unarmed, or that an unarmed man should remain safe and secure when his servants are armed. In the latter case, there will be suspicion on the one hand and contempt on the other, making cooperation impossible. — Niccolo Machiavelli in "The Prince." |
