This is the election season when politicians will say anything to get more campaign cash. A particularly revolting example of legislating for dollars is coming from California. This proposed law teaches us a lot about what is wrong with our present politics, and what is wrong with our politicians. A California legislator wants to force gun owners to pay for government regulations. The legislation requires sheriffs and police chiefs charge for their expenses when they issue a concealed carry permit.
Think about that for a minute. Gun owners will pay the costs incurred by a government monopoly to issue a government mandated permission slip. |

I was an elementary school teacher for years in Cali as well as a licensed conceal carrier, though I never carried at any public school. Upon retirement, I let my permit expire and had to reapply. Denied! Back in the late 90's it was $80 for the sheriffs to process the paper work. But what appalled me was they had to see any gun I might carry and kept a list of what guns legal carriers had. My best mid-life decision was to move out of that state. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"Secrecy is the keystone of all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy ... censorship. When any government, or any church, for that matter, undertakes to say to it's subjects, 'This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,' the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything. You cannot conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him." --Robert A. Heinlein, "Revolt in 2100" (Pg. 68-69, Baen Books paperback edition, 1999 printing) |
