Thomas Massie sets sights on inaptly-named “Gun Free School Zones”

Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) has decided to take aim one of America’s biggest public policy failures: the Gun-Free School Zones Act (GFSZA) of 1990.

...

Earlier this week, Congressman Massie introduced H.R. 86, the Safe Students Act, a bill that would repeal the GFSZA. Originally introduced by former Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) in 2007, this Act would restore much needed sanity to our nation’s gun laws by striking down this ineffective ban that has done nothing to reduce “gun violence.”

"According to Everytown chart, there have been at least 96 school shootings since Sandyhook."

Since this figure has been exposed as bogus, why didn't the article debunk it, as it should have?

That figure includes shootings anywhere near school property, whether or not it was related to students or schools. The greater percentage were not in any way related to schools or students.

A very worthwhile objective ! The GFSZA of 1990, (and the darling of progressive logic), has been a demonstrated "anti-gun violence" failure - multiple times. However, it has succeeded in guaranteeing a "free-fire zone" for those with homicidal intent. Its also served very well to hinder firearms possession by those residing within it, or entrap gun owners traveling through it.

Some jurisdictions had the wisdom to exclude CCWs from the prohibition, but often even their LEOs are not conversant with this aspect of the law. While I don't expect the "progressive social community " to accept their failure, its time for our legislators to "man up" and quit endorsing painting targets on our children.
