If ever there were a year to reform gun laws in South Carolina, this was it. Too bad it didn’t happen. It was less than a year ago that nine people were shot to death as they studied the Bible at Emanuel AME Church. The gun allegedly used in those murders was purchased only because of a clerical mistake in processing the background check of the man charged in that crime.

Precedent says that any law or regulation that burdens a fundamental right must be narrowly tailored and use the least intrusive means possible, which is why the three-day limit exists.
Increasing that limit beyond three days would impermissibly burden the right to acquire firearms. |
