Almost 100,000 more Minnesotans are certified to pack heat than there were just two years ago, including nearly twice as many Winona County residents.

At the close of 2016, about 260,300 Minnesota citizens held permits to carry a concealed weapon, compared with about 165,300 in 2014. Minnesota issued more permits to carry firearms in 2016 than in any year since the state started issuing permits 13 years ago, the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said Wednesday.

The rule of thumb to always remember is that Democrats will unfailingly strive to restrict your liberty, while Republicans will strive to expand it.

There are, of course, exceptions to every rule.

But that doesn't negate the rule.
