    | Private citizens rarely use guns to kill criminals or stop crimes, contends a new study from the Violence Policy Center, an advocacy group. The center cites recent federal data showing that private citizens use guns to harm themselves or others far more often than to kill in self-defense. The study said that in 2015 there were only 265 justifiable homicides involving a private citizen using a firearm reported to the FBI. Seventeen states reported zero justifiable homicides in 2015. That year, there were 9,027 criminal firearm homicides.

    | It only counts if you kill your attacker.
If you only wound someone to save your life, it doesn't make their list. And forget all the times a criminal changed his mind when he learned his victim was armed. Those incidences never happened.

Making up phony statistics to prove a point does not prove anything.

    | Furthermore, I don't believe there were only 265 justifiable homicides in 2015.
There are three stories about justifiable homicides in today's Keep and Bear Arms news stories. I am sure there are more that have not been reported on this site.

The Violence Policy Center has an agenda and truth is not part of that agenda.

    | More b.s. from liberal organizations.
More than one legitimate study indicates possibly one million people a year defend themselves or loved ones each year with the use of guns, normally firing no shots.

                      | To have no proud monarch driving over me with his gilt coaches; nor his host of excise-men and tax-gatherers insulting and robbing me; but to be my own master, my own prince and sovereign, gloriously preserving my national dignity, and pursuing my true happiness; planting my vineyards, and eating their luscious fruits; and sowing my fields, and reaping the golden grain: and seeing millions of brothers all around me, equally free and happy as myself. This, sir, is what I long for. -- General Francis Marion, American War of Independence, Georgetown, SC [Source: 'Marion, The Life of Gen. Francis Marion' by M. L. Weems, Ch.18] | | |
