I showed up for my first hunter safety field training class 26 years old, 10 minutes late and holding a fluorescent orange vest two sizes too small. Bracing myself as I stepped into the Fish, Wildlife and Parks building on the shores of Lake Elmo in Billings, I felt sure that shortly I was going to be ogled and tracked across the room by sharp-eyed 12-year-olds sizing me up for the kill shot.
