On the cover of the New York Daily News was a picture of an American Marine wearing battle regalia in Iraq. The headline over it read: “No civilian should own this gun.” The editors of the Daily News, thinking themselves clever, asked: “Hey, NRA: This Marine served in Iraq and says assault rifles should be banned. Does that make him a gun-grabbing commie, too?” |

And before we had a story of a U. S. Navy SEAL saying the AR-15 is a great weapon for home defense ..... Both sides can hide behind a uniform, but the fact remains that (A.) military people are, like us civies, divided on these issues and -- more importantly -- (B.) The right to own and righteously use these firearms is an inalienable right and remains protected by the second amendment. So ultimatly, the opinion of military personnel are not the judge of our rights; their opinions are neither more nor less important than ours. |

Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction. — St. George Tucker, in his edition of 'Blackstone's Commentaries,' 1:300 (1803). |
