"Last week's summit between Gov. Pawlenty and city officials, which sought to address recent shootings in Minneapolis, left out one of the most crucial elements in preventing gun violence. According to Citizens for a Safer Minnesota, the Governor's plan to increase the police presence in Downtown and Uptown Minneapolis is laudable, but lacking."
"Sue Fust of Citizens for a Safer Minnesota said, 'Crime is a complex issue that requires a multifaceted response. ... we must also do something to decrease the number of people who are illegally carrying guns. Background checks for all gun transfers is one way to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.'" ... -------

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.... We've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of government himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden. The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no one group singled out to pay a higher price. — Ronald Reagan |
