Federal agents are trying to determine why a man pulled over for speeding in Tennessee was carrying a cache of weapons including two submachine guns and 900 rounds of ammunition. Deputies found Scott Edmisten, 43, of Johnson City, carrying a .357-caliber Magnum, a loaded .45-caliber semi-automatic, a .223-caliber fully automatic assault rifle, a .308-caliber fully automatic assault rifle, more than 900 rounds of ammunition, and survival equipment, Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal said. |

The question is: were they legal? Personally I think it would be foolish to drive around with that armament, but if they are legal, and the person does not have mental problems. Well, send him on his way and get him out of the state. |

"The question is: were they legal?"
Did you read the article carefully?
He was in possession of two full-auto ARs that had no serial numbers and are not registered with the ATF, and enough ammo to wreak real havoc.
That's as illegal as it gets (except for the ammo part - that merely adds reasonable suspicion).
Methinks the deputies thwarted a potential bad actor. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"Secrecy is the keystone of all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy ... censorship. When any government, or any church, for that matter, undertakes to say to it's subjects, 'This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,' the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything. You cannot conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him." --Robert A. Heinlein, "Revolt in 2100" (Pg. 68-69, Baen Books paperback edition, 1999 printing) |
