Bob Stewart Sentencing Hearing is May 6

by Angel Shamaya

May 1, 2002

KeepAndBearArms.com -- Mesa, Arizona gunkit maker Bob Stewart was found guilty by a jury of his non-peers of possession of firearms by a felon (a gun possession felony in which he was allegedly entrapped) and possession of unregistered machineguns (which you could buy at a hardware store for a hundred bucks and a handshake not so many years ago).  The verdict was handed up (to his level, as a patriot) in late January. The judge ordered him held until sentencing -- he's sitting in a federal prison in Florence, Arizona with rapists, murderers and other real criminals.

The trial could be described as a joke -- but it's not funny. There is no injured party here, and Mr. Stewart stands to go to prison for several years for exercising his right to keep and bear arms.

The BATF wasted no time; they began harassing Mr. Stewart's former customers less than two months after his conviction. Such is life when you give a bloated federal agency a juicy list of gunowners -- or, actually, when they confiscate the list under the color of law that would have made America's founders start killing people.

The sentencing hearing is scheduled for Monday, May 6, 2002 at the federal district court in Phoenix at 10:30am.

Nobody knows for sure how harsh the judge will be in her sentencing. She could give him 50 years if she wanted to -- a virtual life sentence for the 57-year-old retired school teacher. And given the way she behaved during pre-trial hearings and during the trial, it wouldn't be surprising if she went that far.

Stewart's court-appointed attorney, Mr. Haney, expects a sentence of 4-7 years.  The oldest of Stewart's three sons is 9.

Naomi Stewart, to say the least, has a lot of changes to make in her life now.

Should you wish to call the judge's office and insist on leniency, contact information is below. That's also the address of the hearing where she will order his fate.
