In spite of so many experts vilifying “mouse guns” over the past few decades, the .380 ACP has staged—and continues to stage—an incredible comeback in the world of self-defense handguns. I attribute this to three major factors. First, ammunition manufacturers have invested great effort in both improving performance of .380 ACP ammo and educating the public on those improvements. Second, American shooters have totally embraced the changes in laws regarding the issuance of concealed-carry permits and have flooded law enforcement offices around the country with applications.

Collins has amassed an unusual collection of “friend of the court” briefs supporting his position, filed by organizations ranging from the National Rifle Association to the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the American Motorcyclist Association. The NRA stresses that the Fourth Amendment’s “first and highest purpose is to protect the sanctity of the home,” an interest that “also forms the cornerstone of several other fundamental constitutional liberties, including the right to armed self-defense protected by the Second Amendment.”

An AR-556 with a 30-round magazine is not protected by the Second Amendment; it did not exist in 1791, and if it had existed it would have been, well — regulated.

Thus, I humbly submit here, a 28th Amendment to bring the 2nd Amendment into the 21st century. And what should such a 28th Amendment say, anyway? To my mind it is very straightforward.

"The second article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed. Henceforth, the right of the people to keep and bear single shot arms shall not be infringed."

This week, the Vermont General Assembly convenes its 2018 legislative session. As in 2017, we will see gun control advocates pushing for policies to restrict the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners. It is vital that gun owners and sportsmen across the Green Mountain State stay actively involved throughout 2018.

Anti-gun groups and legislators are aggressively pushing for "universal" background checks, which do nothing to improve public safety. Their agenda also includes dangerous legislation disguised as "domestic violence" prevention that does nothing more than weaken due process.

The Office of Administrative Law (OAL) has approved the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) proposed ammunition vendor regulations after failing to meet the statutorily mandated deadline of July 1, 2017 and the effective date of January 1, 2018.

As previously reported, recent changes to California law require ammunition vendors, businesses that sell ammunition but who are not licensed to sell firearms, to be in possession of a valid ammunition vendor license by January 1, 2018 in order to continue selling ammunition in California.

The Trans Women Turning to Firearms for Survival

Trans women are one such community. For some trans guns rights activists, arming trans women is a moral imperative in a society that routinely fails to protect them from systemic violence. Their work sits at the intersections of a sometimes awkward divide—some are left-leaning, some are on the right, and all of them cherish an individualistic interpretation of gun rights. This flies in the face of assumptions people may make about the trans community's political leanings and feelings about the Second Amendment.

Yesterday, the Kentucky Legislature began its 2018 legislative session. Your NRA will continue to focus on passing constitutional carry in the state of Kentucky. This important legislation would allow any law-abiding adult who can legally possess a firearm to carry a handgun for self-defense in Kentucky without having to first obtain a permit to do so. This legislation would allow law-abiding adults in Kentucky to carry in a manner that best suits their needs and improves their ability to defend themselves and their loved ones from danger.

It is important that gun owners and sportsmen across the Bluegrass State stay actively involved in these issues throughout the legislative session.

TX: Rep. Jonathan Stickland Endorses Texas Open Carry Founder's Bid to Unseat GOP Incumbent

Stickland supports "constitutional carry," the purported right of Americans to bear arms without government licenses, and isn’t a fan of background checks for firearms purchasers. So it’s no surprise that Stickland announced Wednesday on Facebook he is endorsing his friend Christopher “CJ” Grisham, the founder of the open carry movement in Texas, in Grisham's bid to unseat fellow Republican Rep. Hugh Shine of Temple.

“Many will criticize me for endorsing against a fellow ‘Republican,’” he wrote. “It’s not typical, and most don’t do it. But I love liberty too much to sit quietly. It’s time to kick out RINOs [Republicans in name only].”

For example, in Washington state, researchers found nine occasions when gun owners shot and killed an intruder – the stories often cited as proof that guns protect people. In the same period, guns in people’s homes were implicated in 12 accidental deaths and 41 homicides. The number of suicides? Three hundred and thirty-three. Guns harmed their owners nearly 50 times as often as they protected them. Regulations prevent businesses from selling us useless medicines and toxic food. Looks like gun owners need similar kinds of protection.

We've got hold of something interesting in Arkansas in a Republican gubernatorial primary in May.

We will find out if, by morphing Sarah Palin, Tommy Robinson and Ted Nugent, you can give Gov. Asa Hutchinson an affliction in his re-nomination quest, maybe a modified case of cat-scratch fever.

That dynamic combination is in the person of Jan Morgan. She calls herself the "Gun Goddess" and boasts on her website that she has been called the first lady of the Second Amendment. She's pictured on that site in heels sometimes and boots sometimes and guns always.

She owns and operates a gun range in Hot Springs that she has declared a Muslim-free zone. She is a licensed gun-use instructor.

Drive off the blacktop, down a gravel road, turn onto a long lane that winds — watch the little goats that scurry along — to a house on a wooded ridge.

That’s where you find two young sisters who would rather be bundled up in the cold woods than sleeping in on a Saturday morning.

They hunt. And they love all that that means. The early rise, solitude, the song of birds, nature’s colors, breath in the air. Their dogs.

“Killing the animal isn’t the fun part,” said Madeline Funk, 12, a seventh-grader.

The Gun-Free-Zone Liability Act says that, in public places, if you create one of these dangerous make-believe gun-free zones, you’re liable for any harm it causes. There is no cost or budget item associated with enacting this bill.

The idea that make-believe gun-free zones are safe — is fraudulent.

Still, these calls beg the question: Are mentally disordered people with access to firearms really driving America’s gun violence problem?

Our recent analysis suggests the answer is no. In fact, we found that people with serious mental illness who have access to firearms are no more likely to be violent than people living in the same neighborhoods who do not have mental illnesses.

A state lawmaker will take a shot — perhaps a long shot — at banning bump fire stocks and gun silencers in Nebraska.

A rare gun control measure in a conservative state where proposals usually try to expand Second Amendment rights was among the 119 bills introduced Wednesday on the first day of the 2018 Nebraska Legislature. The 49 state senators will meet for a 60-day session scheduled to conclude April 18.

The opening day proceedings were marked by pomp, circumstance and lots of smartphone photos of senators with their families.

The people who signed up to receive medical marijuana will be on a registry that licensed gun dealers will have to reference as part of the background check process before selling a weapon.

“People should not have to make that choice,” said Gov. Tom Wolf, who acknowledged gun sale regulations are a “federal thing.” The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives regulates the sale of firearms.

According to the sheriff’s office, Niquan Victorin, 18, Chantz Kade Hines, 18, and Armeka Vantonne Spinks, 18, were armed with military-type weapons Dec. 18 when they tried to break into Childress' home.

An avid hunter and experienced shooter, Childress, upstairs with his wife at the time of the alleged break-in, grabbed a handgun and fired multiple shots at the intruders.

According to the sheriff’s office, Childress, 72, said he felt “the only reason he and his wife were here today was because of God and the Second Amendment.”

NY: Governor proposes law aimed at disarming domestic violence convicts

Family of Woodstock Executive Director Michael Berg says Governor Andrew Cuomo’s proposal to help keep guns out of the hands of people convicted of domestic violence crimes is important.

"The person that has suffered domestic violence at the hands of a partner should not have to worry about a partner taking a gun out and threatening or using it," Berg said.

Under the proposal, people convicted of all domestic violence crimes, including misdemeanors, must surrender firearms. Currently, state law prohibits people convicted of felonies or serious offenses from carrying firearms, but this excludes certain misdemeanor offenses involving domestic violence like assault and battery.

Attorneys for the Second Amendment Foundation and its partners in a challenge to the California Department of Justice regulations on so-called “assault weapons” have filed an amended complaint in the case, and are also seeking an injunction against the new regulations.

The case is known as Holt v. Becerra. It was filed in Superior Court in Riverside County.

SAF is joined by The Calguns Foundation (CGF), Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC), Firearms Policy Foundation (FPF) and five individual California residents. The amended complaint adds Craig Stevens as an individual plaintiff. He is currently serving with the California Army National Guard and is presently deployed to the Middle East.

UT: Utah Joins States Who Prohibit Destruction of Valuable Firearms

Utah has joined the growing list of states that forbid the destruction of valuable firearms. The law is as rational as can be. Why destroy valuable property when it can be sold and the proceeds used for the public good?

Why destroy perfectly legal guns so that gun manufacturers can make more profits?

If older guns are destroyed, there are plenty of new guns to meet the demand. Utah's new law went into effect on January 1, 2017.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
It will be of little avail to the people that the laws are made by men of their own choice if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood. —JAMES MADISON
