Preliminary data on crime during the first half of 2017 shows murders were up 1.5 percent during that period, but that depended upon the location, according to an FBI report released last week coincidentally while the annual Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show was unfolding in Las Vegas. However, in cities of more than 1 million population, murder was actually down 1.9 percent from the same period in 2016, the report noted. It was up a startling 18.7 percent in cities with populations between 500,000 and 999,999. That would include places like Seattle, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

This story is just wrong on so many levels, as the questions storm onto the alleyway adjacent to a quaint pub, like a technicolor sea of angry and despondent soccer hooligans after enduring a defeat to an arch-rival.

Does the bar stock enough whiskey and Guinness to the squelch the potentially hazardous tide of mutual discontent, or is the plot simply tarnished by an obscure Russian gang doing their best impression of an amateur track and field team in stumbling their way through the corridors of suburban London?

In the competitive world of 3-gun, many participants decide what class to enter based on their prowess at reloading a shotgun magazine. Those unwilling to spend hours practicing the difficult act of speed-reloading a typical tube-magazine (TM) shotgun often pick the Open class so they can use either speedloaders or detachable magazine (DM) shotguns like the Saiga 12 to avoid being embarrassed. Fact is, a shotgun can be the most intuitive and deadliest short-range weapon available, until it must be reloaded. Then it’s a real conundrum.

In an article about shall issue carry permits in Washington, D.C., the authors, Peter Hermann and Peter Jamison, ignore half of the rights contained in the Second Amendment. It is rather odd, considering it is the main topic of their article. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit struck down the “may issue” law in D.C. specifically. Here is an excerpt from Wrenn that shows how strong the opinion is.
