More gun control wouldn't have stopped this tragedy. You're wrong, Al. By Dave Kopel, author of The Truth About Gun Shows In the presidential debate last night, Al Gore claimed that more gun control might have prevented the Columbine murders. While this statement was not a lie — because Gore may well have believed it — it was palpably false.

Foxnews.com's story on Gore's change of heart. A quote: "But even Gore supporters concede the White House has been unable to win passage of any major gun control laws since the Republicans won control of Congress in 1994, despite such high profile killings as the massacre in Littleton, Colo. Instead, the administration was forced to find ways to circumvent Congress, such as the lawsuits it used to force gun manufacturers to implement new safety locks." |

"Ten of the 11 said on their application they had not been convicted of a felony when in fact they had, authorities said. Answering any of the questions falsely subjects an individual to prosecution for perjury. None of the 10 men who presented their real names but lied about whether they had a past conviction was able to obtain a gun." |

Officials today planned to announce Project Exile, a federal-state-local campaign aimed at prosecuting convicted felons who are later found to possess weapons in Kent County.
"Someone convicted under the (federal) system is looking at five years or more," Assistant U.S. Attorney Phil Green explained. ~~~ Reading this article, it sounds like someone who has a 25 year old felony for having a single marijuana cigarette could also go to prison. |

"Though overall firearm deaths are down nationwide, an analysis of gun accidents and suicides among kids shows that within certain age groups there were startling increases." ~ Kids killing themselves is a waste of breath. They'll do it other ways. And, quite frankly, a few kids dying by accident is not a good enough reason to destroy our nation's freedom by enacting pre-confiscation laws. You don't want your kids having accidents, get responsible, but don't try to screw ME in the process. |

"Sitting behind a table cluttered with confiscated guns and drugs Tuesday, Mobile County Sheriff Jack Tillman said 16 hours in Prichard netted results that exceeded expectations but admitted that his 25-deputy strike force is only a short-term fix."
"This is a large amount of guns for such a short period of time," Tillman said. ~~~ UNDER WHAT AUTHORITY?!!!!! |

Disarming the citizenry is not the answer.
By Dave Kopel, Dr. Paul Gallant & Dr. Joanne Eisen of the Independence Institute
In September 28, former South African President Nelson Mandela pleaded for help in fighting AIDS in his country. He made the plea during a guest appearance at the Labour Party conference in Great Britain, where he was conferred with honorary membership. Mandela declared the spread of AIDS as "a crisis of a dimension which I cannot support in words."

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American... The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state government, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people. — Tench Coxe, Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788. |
