The mainstream media brings us yet another example of how anti-self-defense folks rely on bigotry, feelings and emotions over diversity, science and substance with the story of a University of Colorado staff member proudly displaying a “no guns” sign on his office door at a public university.
His bigotry (defined as “stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one’s own” by Collins) should be called out by freedom-loving Americans as offensive, as he’s demanding others forgo their civil rights based upon nothing more than his personal fears about card-carrying, good guy gun owners.
Sixty plus years ago, bigots like Bonetti posted signs that said, “No Negroes”. |

For many ardent proponents of strict gun control, the notion is strong that firearms – and especially handguns – should only be allowed for police and the military, perhaps with some strictly-regulated allowance for hunters and target shooters.
After all, they might suggest, because cops carry guns they are experts about all things related to firearms. The problem with the premise that only cops should have guns is that police are hired from the human race. They make mistakes, they have accidents and sometimes they are crime victims. |

During Hurricane Sandy, we learned a lot about what our fellow citizens are made of. We learned of their character and in some cases, their character defects.
There were many brave people serving those who were trapped and in need of help, there were also those who were preying on those who were trapped and needed help. The social media site Twitter was being used by some gang members and other scum that were making plans to go on a looting spree after the hurricane.
These people were making plans to loot homes and businesses directly after the storm. Most people cannot imagine planning to loot, steel or harm their fellow citizens immediately following a disaster but obviously we have some that look forward this kind of sick activity. |

OARDMAN — Township police are now going through the home that was the scene of a home invasion that left one person dead this afternoon.
Ofiicers were called to 5011 Lockwood Blvd. about 3:15 p.m. When they arrived a man was found shot in the kitchen.
The homeowner was inside the house, and it appears the deceased man had invaded the home, according to police. |

Western Illinois University students passing through Horrabin Hall Tuesday may have noticed two tables — one covered in baked goods and the other displaying an assortment of candy and a stack of targets — flanking the door to the ROTC indoor firing range.
For $1 per target or $5 for 6 targets, WIU students, faculty and staff had the opportunity to participate in the WIU ROTC's annual Halloween Pumpkin Shoot. The targets, however, were not actual pumpkins, but Halloween-themed paper targets.
"I thought (the target) was going to be an actual pumpkin," said WIU freshman Viktor Rusenas.

Police are looking for two men, one armed, who robbed Webster's Store on Race Street early Tuesday night before fleeing when the store owner shot at the gunman.
Police were called to the store at 810 Race St. at 6:24 p.m. Tuesday for a reported armed robbery.
The store owner, Mr. Webster, said he and a female customer were standing in front of the store when two African-American men approached them and forced them back into the store. One of the suspects displayed a handgun and pointed it at Mr. Webster and the customer. |

Kansas' open carry law has turned into a fight, as a group threatens to sue if cities don't get in line, but some communities aren't budging.
There have been a lot of cities, including Overland Park, to adopt the open carry law, but there have been many holdouts, including Leawood. Soon those cities may not have a choice.

After more than an hour of debate, Student Senate voted decisively in favor of the Texas A&M Personal Protection Bill on Wednesday with a 38-19 vote, but because a senator’s motion to reconsider the bill, it was stalled and will be voted on again at the next Senate meeting.
The bills calls on the Texas government to mandate that concealed carry be allowed on campus and in buildings at pubic universities, and for A&M to align its policy with said legislation.

We headed to the range with the upper receiver we built here. This build was based on a Daniel Defense stripped M4 style carbine length gas system 16″ upper. We added a Daniel Defense Lite Rail 9.5 FSP, Larue LT103 with CSAT rear, Daniel Defense chrome bolt carrier group, and a Aimpoint T1 with 2 MOA dot.

In contrast to earlier catastrophic events like Hurricane Katrina, the looting following Hurricane Sandy has been pretty subdued, though a group of freebooters made their way through Coney Island with shopping lists in mind.
“People were running in and out of Rent-A-Center carrying these big flat screens” the Daily News reported. “They were holding on tight,” said witness Aisha John, 20. “I couldn’t understand how someone could steal a big TV in broad daylight, but no one cared.”

A plea to close the private gun sales loophole. Jeri Bonavia with the WAVE Action Fund said a glaring loophole in state gun laws make it all too easy to buy guns from private sellers, who do not – in fact, cannot – run background checks. “One of our top priorities for years has been to close that private sales market, and have all gun sales at least be completed by a licensed gun dealer,” Bonavia said. She said several states and numerous other countries have such a requirement in place.

As you have probably already heard, Open Carry went into effect today in the State of Oklahoma. I don’t intend to do a whole lot of OC, but I have been preparing for this. I’ve sold several OC specific rigs to other Okies in the last year.
I made a matched pair of ostrich, horse, and stingray paddle holsters for my Performance Center revolvers, and have a black belt with red stitching to match them. Jennifer got a new, red, metallic, patent leather holster to fit her FN with a CT Rail Master and a matching double magazine carrier and belt. She also got a black holster for the same setup with flat dark earth stitching to match her pistol. Today, I’m wearing my M&P45 in black basket weave with matching magazines on the off side. |

MADISON (WSAU) Today is the first anniversary of Wisconsin’s concealed weapons law – and the state’s attorney general says it’s working as well as expected. About 138,500 state carry permits were granted in the first year – 13,000 more than what J-B Van Hollen predicted six months ago. Around 150,000 people have applied for concealed weapons licenses, and Van Hollen said many of the ones rejected were for clerical errors.
There were long delays at first in getting the applications processed. But the backlog has disappeared, and Van Hollen says the review process is now going smoothly. |

In the wake of tragedy, state legislators put politics aside and passed a bill to strengthen criminal penalties for gun trafficking. The move came just weeks after Michael Joseph Henry was arrested for supplying the gun that was used to murder Officer Bradley Fox.
As mayors, we witness how violence devastates not only the victims of crime, but whole families and communities, and we commend the legislature for passing this bill. But it will take a concerted effort to crack down on gun violence, and we hope that leaders in Harrisburg will stay the course and continue to fight for common-sense bills that keep guns out of the wrong hands.

Pro-Gun New Hampshire General Counsel, attorney Evan Nappen, has won a significant court case involving concealed carry licensing in New Hampshire. His client was denied a NH non-resident carry license solely due to a 34 year old misdemeanor marijuana conviction received when he was 18 years old. The State was stubbornly enforcing their administrative rule (which, by the way, has no basis in law) that makes any misdemeanor conviction for drugs an automatic denial.

The comedian Chris Rock used to include a bit in his stand up comedy act in response to calls for gun control. Rock’s comedic premise was that a better idea might be bullet control. “If a bullet cost $5,000, there would be no more innocent bystanders,” Rock quipped. While gun violence is no laughing matter, the top official in Illinois’ Cook County (which includes Chicago) had presented a plan that was somewhat akin to Rock’s idea of “bullet control:” a five-cent per-bullet tax.
