"While visiting at the Savage Arms booth, one of their representatives asked me if I had seen the LULA. After displaying my total ignorance of the product, she pulled one from her purse, and explained to me how the thing works, and directed me to the booth where they were displayed. There I received a demonstration of this little device, and immediately had to have one."

Ever wonder where criminals get their guns? Know of any extra laws that would have stopped them?

CT: Gun Accident Reveals Double Standard

"The recent accidental discharge of a handgun at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts has made some Connecticut residents angry about the lawful presence of handguns in theaters. Typically, these residents don't support the ownership or carrying of firearms anywhere, not just in theaters."

"But the incident has also angered many civilians who hold permits to carry handguns - because the incident revealed a repugnant double standard."

-------
The gun owner was a police officer, so as the member of the "elite" he got a slap on the wrist. Meanwhile, misguided Connecticut residents are angry about guns being allowed in theaters, but not the fact that an alleged "trained professional" discharged it and got off with nary a punishment.

"In a Columbus Dispatch article about the expected progress of Ohio House Bill 12, Ohio Highway Patrol Capt. John Born reiterated the OHP's opposition to any bill that would allow citizens their right to self-defense in an automobile."

" 'We do not want a loaded firearm readily accessible to the driver of a car,' said Born."

"When presented with the fact that a firearm is useless in a pinch if it's locked up, Born responded: 'If there's a dangerous situation and you're in your car, you can drive off.' "

Here is a short list of defenseless Ohioans who have suffered under the OHP's idea of self-defense.

"Unfortunately, a greater threat lies in wait. The Justice Department has drafted legislation (the existence of which it first denied even though copies have been made available to the news media) that would expand on the USA Patriot Act, enacted in the wake of Sept. 11, in chilling ways. If enacted as drafted, the measure would, among other things, lower the threshold for eavesdropping on individuals and groups and weaken federal judges' ability to force the government to provide legal protections to suspects."

"A measure of how arbitrary these new powers would be is a provision giving the attorney general authority to strip citizenship from Americans suspected of aiding terrorist groups. To get around the Constitution's ban on such a draconian step, the new law would make a presumption that, in (allegedly) giving aid to a terrorist group -- as declared by the attorney general -- a suspect intended to renounce his citizenship."

-------
There's no greater threat to your freedom right now than your own government. Think about that next time you vote for one of the major party candidates.

For those who wish to suspend our civil liberties while we are at war I will give you something to think about. "If the people ought to govern, then it seems obvious that a centralized administration like the U.N. is a danger to the freedoms of all nations and their individual subjects. Thanks in no small part, however, to neoconservatives, the founding idea of a government deriving its power from the consent of the governed continues to be ignored. Forgive me then if I state the obvious: The Bush administration is far more concerned with international supremacy than with national sovereignty."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crime. — Cesare Beccaria, quoted by Thomas Jefferson
