"Monday evening’s KCTS airing of Public Matters, Guns: Control, Safety and Rights, is already creating an interesting discussion among Northwest gun rights activists, one of whom raises an interesting question based on remarks from panelists on the program."

"Their observation: 'There are too many guns out there.'"

"To which WaGuns correspondent 'Doc' Nugent raises a valid question that was never asked, though there should be no doubt that moderator C.R. Douglas would have asked, had it occurred to him:"

"'How many guns should there be (in Washington, or whatever)?'" ...

"Gun prohibitionist Josh Sugarmann may have just done the firearms rights community a monumental – albeit certainly unintentional – favor by offering some quotes to a Reuters reporter about the gun used in the Wisconsin Sikh temple shooting."

"The Reuters story, picked up here by the Chicago Tribune, quotes Sugarmann’s claim that a semiautomatic handgun is the 'weapon-of-choice' of mass shooting perpetrators. Sugarmann is the executive director of the Violence Policy Center."

"If his assertion is correct, then why in the wake of the Aurora, Colo., theater attack several weeks ago, did anti-gunners launch an effort to rekindle public demand for a ban on so-called 'assault rifles?'" ...

"Nine-in-ten Americans maintain their views on the Second Amendment, but a majority of gun owners and non-gun owners alike believe that the AR-15 semi-automatic rifle should only be used by the police and other authorized persons, a new Angus Reid Public Opinion poll has found."

"The online survey of a representative national sample of 1,010 American adults also found that support for the 'shall-issue' prerogative to carry concealed weapons in public has increased over the past six months." ...

Submitter's Note: Except the poll did not specify "semi-auto". They showed a picture of an AR-15 and asked if it should be limited to cops.

"'The .380 was a cute fad,' Springfield Armory's print ads proclaim. 'Now, let’s get back to business.' Back to business indeed. Forty-five caliber single-stack striker fired pistols aren't exactly a new thing. Kahr and Glock have been making them since the naughties. Truth be told neither model has been flying off the shelves. But no one has made a pocket .45 this small. Our small-handed man Dan got to grips with the XD-S at this year’s SHOT Show and loved it. But is the new XD-S really all that and a pocketful of protection . . ." ...

"urbandictionary.com lists three definitions for the word 'tacky.' First up, 'in bad taste.' That’s a tough one. Like beauty, bad taste is in the eye (nose?) of the beholder. Someone might view the LV-wrapped Walther handgun above as the epitome of good taste. The same people, perhaps, who worship upmarket brands without wondering or worrying one whit about the quality of the products adorned with its identity. Would they care if the Machine Guns Vegas‘ custom gatt was adorned with 'real' (i.e. company authorized) Louis Vuitton treated canvas or cheap knock-off plastic? Nope. So, basically, if logo ho’s get wood for this LV gun, chances are it’s in bad taste. But not necessarily . . ." ...

"You cling to the Second Amendment as though it were written yesterday; it was written 228 years ago, and back then, the 'arms to bear' were single-shot rifles or pistols. What if the amendment stated: 'Only single-shot arms allowed'?"

"Even I would approve of that, and I hate guns. Why do any of you need a automatic rifle?"

They typically blame both political parties for the inability of our leaders to resolve the issues of the day. I reply by informing them that we have entered a period of little compromise. Among the reasons for this environment is Wayne LaPierre and the NRA, and what they’ve caused is not necessarily a bad thing." ...
